Animal Behaviorist & Vet Assistant

My Story Animals have been my entire life, and I am incredibly lucky for it! I have a Bachelor's degree in Animal Behavior and am currently pursuing my PhD in Zoology at the University of British Columbia, specializing in animal behaviour and cognition. With 15 years of professional animal experience, I've worked with and cared for dogs professionally in several capacities as a kennel manager, daycare supervisor, professional conservation canine handler, and dog trainer, while also providing dog sitting and dog walking services. As a daycare supervisor, I regularly and safely managed up to 35 dogs in free play, ensuring the dogs were happy, getting along, and well cared for. Working as a kennel manager, I managed the care of up to 50 dogs at a time, ensuring each dog received food, water, medication, exercise, and love. I also worked as a conservation dog handler in Virginia, managing a team of 20 border collies to safely herd wildlife away from construction and human activity. My dog training experience includes conducting behavioral evaluations and consultations, obedience training, and behavior modification both professionally and as a volunteer helping shelter dogs prepare for adoption. I specialize in helping dogs and their families understand each other better, and in working with anxious, reactive, and unsocialized dogs. As for my other experience, I have worked as a wildlife researcher in the US and Africa, a zookeeper, wildlife rehabilitator, and I also managed a wolf sanctuary. Now I'm focusing on my favorite species, your best friend, and mine, the domestic dog. I have worked with all types of dog breeds and temperaments from all kinds of backgrounds. I'm dog and cat CPR certified, and this diverse background has given me exceptional skills in reading dog body language, managing multiple dogs safely, and working with high-drive working breeds. Bottom line: I know what I'm doing when it comes to dogs, and I am more than happy to do it. Meet My Partner My close friend and roommate, Naomi, has now partnered with me to provide exceptional pet care services through Rover. (This is why you'll see my name alone in previous reviews, but now we work together as a professional team!) Naomi brings fantastic experience as a veterinary technician with over 5 years in animal care, including 3.5 years working in Vancouver's veterinary clinics and 4 years of dog sitting in our community. She has a Bachelor's degree in Zoology and is currently completing her Veterinary Technology degree. Before joining veterinary medicine, Naomi worked as a wildlife rehabilitation manager, where she cared for injured and orphaned animals, administered medications, and helped animals recover from trauma - experience that makes her especially skilled at handling anxious or stressed pets. Her gentle, caring approach and veterinary expertise make her an amazing addition to our team. What Makes Us Different I have a particular talent for helping nervous pets feel comfortable and building trust quickly - as my clients often mention, even the most anxious dogs seem to warm up to me right away. My academic background helps me understand the "why" behind behaviors, while my years of hands-on experience let me work effectively with any dog personality or behavioral special needs. Naomi's veterinary background with extensive clinical experience and deep understanding of animal health perfectly complements my behavioral expertise. Together, we can provide both immediate behavioral support and recognize any health concerns that might arise, ensuring your pet receives comprehensive professional care. We are known for our reliability, excellent communication (expect regular updates and photos!), and our genuine love for what we do.

Liz exceeded my expectations! She was amazing with Bentley, sent regular updates and photos and was took such good care of Bentley. Bentley is a two year old Newfie with lots of energy and he had a blast at her place. It’s the first time I have used Rover and my experience was so positive that I would recommend her to anyone. Bentley did y want to leave when I came to pick him up!!

Doggy Day Care • May 28, 2026

Liz is incredible! She provided tons of updates and photos throughout the day to make sure I was updated and at ease about my pup’s adventures. She is extremely knowledgeable about dogs, their behaviour, and making safe intros between pups. Milo has had so much fun hanging out with Liz and the other pups in her care that he didn’t want to leave. I physically needed to carry him to the car today. I would HIGHLY recommend her for all of your puppy needs, without question.

Our dogs had the best time with Liz! Communication was excellent, I appreciated her frequent updates on the fun they were having (I was worried our frenchie may not want to come home), and I was so confident the girls were getting all the love and attention they could ask for. Will absolutely book with Liz again.

Liz and Naomi were lovely. The meet and greet went really well and I felt comfortable leaving Taffy with them from the start. They kept me updated with pics, gave her meds as instructed, and were attentive throughout the whole stay. We did a daycare visit first and Taffy was happy to go back for her overnight boarding, which honestly said a lot. Would definitely recommend and will be booking again. Thank you both for taking such good care of my girl!

Safety, trust & environment

Your pet's safety and comfort are our top priorities. Our home features a large, securely fenced backyard where dogs can safely play and explore under constant supervision, plus a sunny balcony perfect for relaxing. Inside, we have a spacious, completely dog-proofed living room with comfortable couches and plenty of toys for entertainment. We're fortunate to live directly across from Pacific Spirit Park, giving your pup immediate access to amazing trails and off-leash areas. Our home is shared with several other dog lovers who adore spending time with our furry guests, so your pet will have plenty of attention and affection throughout their stay. We provide dog beds and crates, but we're also happy to let dogs on couches and beds - whatever makes them feel most at home. For safety, we accept a maximum of four dogs at a time and never leave dogs unsupervised together unless they're from the same family. We also never leave dogs unattended in the yard. To ensure the most stress-free environment for everyone, we only accept dogs who get along well with others.

A typical day

Every dog's day is customized to their personality and energy level, but here's what most of our guests can expect: Morning starts with a walk through Pacific Spirit Park or a quick backyard potty break for our sleepier friends. Throughout the day, there are supervised play sessions in our fenced backyard and lounging time in our comfortable living room with other boarding buddies. For our active pups, we love heading to the fenced field at Lord Byng Elementary for ball chasing and socializing with other friendly dogs. Evening brings another Pacific Spirit Park adventure or a gentle neighborhood stroll for our senior guests. Between activities, dogs can nap on our couches, play with toys, or simply enjoy being part of our daily routine. We carefully administer any medications and follow specific care instructions, always adapting activities to each dog's individual needs, age, and energy level. Whether your pet is a hiking enthusiast or a couch potato, we ensure they have the perfect balance of exercise, stimulation, and relaxation.

Daily Routine: What's their typical eating, walking, and potty schedule? Any bedtime preferences or special routines that help them feel more at home? Health & Medications: Please share any food allergies, dietary restrictions, medications, and your vet's contact information so we're prepared for anything. Training & House Rules: Are you working on any specific training commands or behaviors you'd like us to continue practicing? Are there any house rules we should maintain (like staying off certain furniture, not begging at meals, or specific leash manners)? Social Style: Since we often care for multiple dogs, it's helpful to know how yours behaves with others to keep everyone safe and happy. Are they more social or do they like their space? Do they play gently or like to be more rough and tumble? Do they do better with dogs their own size, male or female dogs, puppies or adults? Do they resource guard toys or food around other dogs? Behavioral Considerations: Knowing about any special needs helps me work with your dog most effectively and safely. This includes things like separation anxiety, reactivity, resource guarding around food or toys, high prey drive (loves chasing squirrels, cats, or small dogs), escape artist tendencies, or specific fears like fireworks, strangers, cars, or other dogs. Does your pup tend to chew or eat things they shouldn't? The Bottom Line: There's no judgment here - every dog has their quirks! The more honest you are about your pup's personality, the better I can ensure they feel completely at home and stress-free during their stay with us.
