I work full-time at a mostly remote job. I do have to go in to office at times, usually one full week every 1-2 months and sporadic days in between, as needed. I do travel a few times a year both for work and personal, but I have those planned out in advance for the most part. Usually for the people I currently support, I'll stay at their houses and work there during the week if they need weekday care. Weekends and evenings, it isn't unusual for me to have other commitments, but I will work those in and around the needs of the pets I am responsible for.

Safety, trust & environment

1. Base needs - I want to know in detail what the specific animal's needs are so I can provide for them appropriately. This includes things like feeding amounts / schedules, supplements, medications, walking schedules, etc. 2. Security and safety - I will ask for a veterinary emergency contact in the event of any emergency. I hope this is never necessary but I think it's essential to have on hand just in case something happens. I also want to know any needs they have in terms of whether they're indoor only cats, indoor/outdoor cats, if they're a dog who needs regular walks but is not good around other dogs, if they're free-range chickens that need to be closed in at night to protect against predators, etc. 3. Enrichment / connection - every animal is different and has differing needs of engagement. I will want to know how your animal(s) operate(s), what they need. It is also important to me that the animal feels comfortable with me so I will work to get to know them and bond with them, meeting them on their level for their needs. 4. Hygiene - it is important to me that the animals I'm caring for are in a clean environment so I will regularly clean cat boxes, enclosures, etc. as needed. For your space / your home, I will keep it clean and do my own dishes, take care of trash, etc. 5. Communication - it is important to have open communication. If anything happens or comes up, I will inform you. If I have questions, I would like to be able to contact you or a proxy / stand-in if you will be unreachable. And, as mentioned before, emergency contacts for your pets but also in case something else happens (e.g. if you have a family or close friend nearby).

Information Linda H. would like to know about your pet

I need to know any special needs they have (medications, conditions, etc.), a description of their personalities so I know what to prepare for, if they're dogs then whether or not I should be wary of other dogs on walks, what their care schedules are for feeding / bathroom breaks / etc.

A typical day

I love playing with animals using whatever their favorite toys are. Throwing tennis balls, wrestling over ropes, having them run around after a laser pointer, etc. I'm happy to take dogs for walks and/or to dog parks, depending on what's best for them.

I love any, and all, animals!

Pet care experience

I grew up on a farm and have had and been around animals my whole life. Myself and my family have had cats, dogs, rats, a chinchilla, a parrot, fish, chickens, rabbits, and goats. Outside of those, I've also cared for horses, bearded dragons, guinea pigs. My experience ranges all over from kittens/puppies to senior pets and pets with health problems or special needs. One of my dogs was severely epileptic and needed round the clock care and medication. I've also cared for a coworker's cat for many years who was diabetic and needed insulin shots. My chinchilla came to us from the shelter with a severe hairball blocking his entire digestive tract which required specialty care round the clock for weeks until it broke up and was passed. I've also cared for a rooster who was attacked by a neighbor's dog and needed antibiotics and wound cleaning while he healed. I've been pet sitting for years, at this point, and am sort of the unofficial "office pet sitter" for my day job. For two of my coworkers, I've been respectively taking care of one's cats for 6+ years and the other's dogs for 4-5+ years. I take care of a family friend's dogs, bearded dragon, fish, parakeet, and chickens periodically for a few years. There are a few others that I work with on a more sporadic basis, as well. As a bonus, I can also take care of houseplants / gardens, bringing in the mail, taking out the trash, etc. When housesitting, it is my priority to respect your home and your belongings. I do prefer to have at least one in-person meeting before taking over care of the pet(s) so that we can discuss "ground rules," go through specifics relating to pet care / household care, discuss emergency contacts, ask / answer questions, etc. I do also request that the specifics be written down somewhere so I have a point of reference in case I have questions. Because I do most of my work for my day job from home / remotely, this does also mean I am available to take care of animals during the day most of the time, also (approximately 80/20 in-office and some sporadic travel). I honestly started pet sitting purely because I love animals and pet sitting gives me the opportunity to interact with more animals and their families. I ultimately decided to start offering my help more widely after I started realizing there was a genuine need for it in the area and it was recommended to me by one of my coworkers (one of the ones I've done pet and house sitting for for years).

Linda is our go to sitter for vacations. When we get home our dogs are always happy and the house is well kept. We appreciate her daily updates and efforts to maintain our dogs’ daily routine while we’re away.

Linda went above and beyond to care for our pets just as we would, following all our special directions as requested. She provided daily updates with photos and videos, giving us peace of mind our dogs were well cared for. She also left the house exactly as she found it and helped with bringing in packages delivered during her stay. We are so glad to have her already booked for another upcoming trip. Thank you Linda! Tessa and Ranger can’t wait to see you again.

Linda was a star pet sitter! Our cat and dog were well cared for and we appreciated her flexibility in being able to stay an extra day in case of travel delays. Finally, Linda pet sat during a large snowstorm- I was really impressed with her planning (where to go with pets in case of prolonged power outage). Finally, Linda provided lots of updates and took great care of the house while we were gone!

Awesome pet sitter. Linda took great care of my cat and dog while we went away for the weekend. She communicated well and both pets were well loved when we returned home. Highly recommend!
