Pet care experience

Excited to meet your best friend!

Hello! I've loved caring for animals since early childhood living on a farm. I'm home full-time, experienced and comfortable with dogs of all sizes and ages, and my home is fully puppy-proofed. I've also worked with dogs that have some special needs, like separation anxiety, phobias, and physical health issues. I’d love to set up a meet and greet to introduce myself and our dogs in advance. My own dog Gaucho is friendly and playful, and well-socialized with other dogs. He’s a 70lb neutered male, fully vaccinated. I can watch only dogs that are friendly toward other dogs. If you need drop-in visits, I'm happy to also care for any houseplants or aquariums or clean a litter box. I can arrange my schedule to fit what your pet is used to and spend plenty of time with them. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns!

From the very first interaction, Leah stood out as someone I could genuinely trust with Ollie. During our meet and greet, she asked all the right questions — about his routines, temperament, any behavioral quirks, and anything else she should know. She also made it clear she would never introduce him to other dogs without first ensuring it was safe, which I really appreciated. Leah was wonderfully patient with him during the meet and greet, understanding that letting him come to her on his own terms was the best way to build trust. Since Ollie is still young and learning to be comfortable around new people, her calm and unhurried approach made a real difference. During the sitting itself, she kept me well informed with updates, photos, and thoughtful notes about how he was doing. And when a family emergency came up and my plans had to shift on the fly, she adapted without hesitation — her flexibility and understanding during a stressful time meant so much. I would absolutely recommend Leah to anyone looking for a sitter who is gentle, attentive, and truly has your dog’s best interests at heart.

I'm grateful to have found Leah and Gaucho. During our meet and greet Leah was thorough, thoughtful, and handled our dogs meeting well. My small 8lb dog can be nervous around large dogs but it was easy to tell that Leah and Gaucho are flexible and know how to work with dogs of different sizes and temperaments. During my pup's weeklong stay, Leah sent photos every day and was very communicative. My dog had a good & mellow stay and came home to us happy. When we ran into travel issues on our way to pick him up, Leah was flexible and generous in taking care of Tocino.

Schedule

I work from home full-time and am very active. I can take your dog on 5+ walks/day, including jogging and 5 mile hikes. Or we can take it easy if that's more your dog's style; couch potatoes also welcome!

Where your pet will stay

Home characteristics

Lives in an apartment
Does not have a yard
Non-smoking household
Has 1 dog
No children present
Dogs allowed on bed
Dogs allowed on furniture

Safety, trust & environment

In addition to being puppy-proof, my home is smoke/vape free and I use only hypoallergenic and pet-safe cleaners. Please note, I live in a 3rd floor walk-up, so keep that in mind if your dog has joint pain or trouble with stairs. I'm fit enough to carry a little dog, but anything over 40 lbs would be tough!

Pets

A typical day

Depending on your dog's energy level and preferences, we could go hang out on the grass at a local park like Maria Hernandez, take a quick jog around the neighborhood or take a 5+ mile hike up to Highland park. I love wandering all over Bushwick and Ridgewood. We can also play games like tug, fetch, and hide-and-seek. My dog Gaucho is very playful and would love to wrestle or nap with your dog! He can take a hint if your dog prefers some personal space.
