Pet care experience

Teacher. Dog Lover. Let's Wag!🐾

With a lifelong love for dogs, I've dedicated myself to their care and well-being. As a devoted volunteer at Summit County Humane Society, I've honed my skills in working with all dogs regardless of breed, shape, size or age. I believe that positive behavior training, and, as such, have completed several courses in positive dog training, including 'Leash Reactive Dogs,' 'Dog Enrichment,' and 'Dogs and Kids,' equipping me with valuable expertise to ensure every dog's needs are met. My experience extends to caring for senior dogs with tenderness and empathy. At home, I've successfully trained our own dog-reactive pup using positive reinforcement techniques. As a middle school teacher, I bring patience, understanding, and a love for learning to every canine interaction. I thrive on the joy of walking and running with dogs, ensuring each outing is filled with fun, exercise, and positive reinforcement.

Safety, trust & environment

Communication with pet parents is paramount to ensuring the safety and well-being of their furry companions. By clearly understanding expectations, I can establish a trusting relationship with both the dog and their owner, setting us all up for success. This open dialogue also allows me to identify and avoid any triggers that may cause stress or discomfort for the animal. With training in positive behavior methods for leash reactivity and interactions with children, I prioritize creating a safe and positive environment for every dog in my care. I believe in allowing dogs to approach and familiarize themselves with me at their own pace, building trust and rapport before engaging in activities. By fostering this sense of comfort and trust, I aim to make every interaction an enjoyable and happy experience for the animal and myself.

Leah did a drop in visit with my dogs while we were away and she did awesome with them! She somehow even managed to get my picky eater to eat his dinner, which is impressive! :) I highly recommend Leah, she is great with the dogs, I have relied on her for dog sitting before and will do so again in the future!

Leah was looking after my 2 dogs while I was away and I couldn't be happier with her care of my dogs! She was very patient with them and took really good care of them. She also sent regular updates, which really helped put my mind at ease that my dogs were well taken care of. I would highly recommend her as a dog sitter and hope to have her look after my dogs again!

Schedule

As a teacher, my schedule allows me to dedicate ample time to pet care, especially during afternoons, weekends, and throughout the summer. During these periods, I prioritize providing attentive and loving care to pets under my watch through regular walks, engaging play sessions, and beneficial training exercises. At home, my own dog benefits from daily walks, playtime, enrichment activities and weekly runs, activities I eagerly anticipate sharing with other animals in my care. Pet care isn't just a responsibility; it's a source of joy and fulfillment, and I eagerly look forward to extending the same level of care and attention to other animals as I do my own.

Understanding a pet's personality and routine is crucial for providing the best care possible. Before caring for a pet, I like to know their general temperament to ensure compatibility with other animals and people. Knowing their typical daily schedule helps me maintain continuity and minimize stress during their time away from home. Additionally, being aware of any quirks or special needs, such as being an escape artist, chewer, or fearful of thunder, allows me to tailor my services accordingly. The more information I have, the better I can meet their individual needs and ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for both the pet and their owner.
