Pet care experience

I will treat your pet with respect and care

Having grown up with cats, dogs, and horses, I learned how to balance love and care with respect and seriousness. I treat pets as equals and create bonds with them easily. I am reliable, responsible, and will treat any pet as my own. As my family has two Australian shepherds of their own, I know the struggles of having to entertain or to walk overexcited dogs. I also understand the difficulties of having a puppy or a teenager dog. Thus, I am capable of taking care of more stubborn dogs.

Lea was very nice and took care of Appam very well. We look forward to more interactions with her in future to keep Appam. Thanks Lea.

Lea takes care of our animals on a regular basis. We have always been satisfied with her service. The animals, mostly cats, have been treated with kindness and respect. She always keeps an eye on the health of our elderly cats and when necessary gets the vet involved, or gives treatment herself. Lea has been flexible and has made herself available for us whenever we needed her help.

Lea is my daughter and she is one of the most animal-friendly and pet-caring and responsible person I know. Her entire life, she has taken care of our two cats, then as a 12-year-old onwards has ridden and taken care of horses. We got our first Australian Shepherd puppy in June-19, Lea took an active part in training her to be clean, walk on the leash, develop a strong recall, as well as all the other basic commands most people do not bother teaching their dogs (sit, lie down, drop, leave it, retrieve, stay, heal, go...). As we adopted our second Aussie, he had been abandoned by his first family and had clearly been neglected and abused, as he was scared of men, didn't behave or respond to any requests and didn't know how to play. Lea taught him everything he knows, she attended training sessions with a professional dog behaviourist and he has now fully integrated our family life and is a happy and social well-balanced nearly 2-year-old. I can only fully recommend Lea as your next dog walker and carer, you will see how crazy happy your dog will be each and every time s/he greets Lea again.

Lea is very good with dogs. We have 2 Australian Shephards and they are all happy when she comes by to take care of them again. Lea is very much in sync with the needs of an animal, whether it needs attention as to food and drink, play or rest. She is the best dog sitter we have ever had.

Schedule

As a student at the University of Amsterdam, I am still tied to attending classes in person. This means that I cannot pet sit 24 hours in a day. However, besides my classes, I always try to keep my schedule open and flexible. Moreover, I do travel whenever the opportunity arises, thus leaving me unavailable at certain points in time.

Safety, trust & environment

As I do not live alone, I prefer not inviting pets into my home. However, I will always be happy to pet sit in their home. I also strongly believe that the pet generally feels more comfortable in a familiar environment, making it less stressful for them to be away from their owners for a while. Staying at the pet owner's home would also imply that I take care of the home and make sure it is well guarded while the owners are away.

A typical day

As I live just next to Oosterpark, I often go on walks there. I love playing with pets and cuddling them. I also believe that they want to learn, so I sometimes try to stimulate their brain by reinforcing the tricks they already know, or teach them new (standard) ones.

I really would appreciate knowing how they act around humans in general. It is also important, if I go on walks in public places, to know how they react to children crying or other dogs/cats. Of course, the dog would stay on a leash with me, so knowing their tendencies to pull is a bonus.
