Pet care experience

Lifelong Animal Lover - WFH

Hi there! I've been a pet owner my entire life. I grew up with cats and dogs of all breeds and I've been caring for pets as long as I can remember. Now, for the first time in my life, I don't have any pets, and honestly, I miss having them around - which is exactly why I'm excited to care for yours! I was active in 4-H and trained Belgian Sheepdogs in positive-reinforcement based obedience. I've owned dogs as small as a Japanese Chin and as big as a Newfoundland, so I understand different dog temperaments and energy levels. I've also been watching friends' and neighbors' pets for several years, including high-anxiety cats, senior dogs, and recent rescues - helping them to feel calm and secure while away from their family.

Layne has been taking care of Pinot when I’ve been out of town whenever I’ve needed it, and there is truly no one better! She’s incredibly reliable, caring, and always goes above and beyond. She was especially amazing when I had to be away for a week right after Pinot’s leg surgery. She gave him his medications, snuggled him to pieces, and sent me photos and updates to ease my (very) worried mind. She’s been my number one pet sitter for the last few years, and I’m honestly starting to think Pinot waits in anticipation for me to leave again so he can hang out with his bestie! 😂

Layne is ideal. Whenever possible I use her to care for my fur baby. She understands animals really well, is patient with them and enjoys playing with them and taking then for walks. My fur baby loves her and I never feel guilty dropping her off with Layne. Her place is very clean and safe. Since Layne works remote, my pup doesn't have to spend hours alone. Lynnette W.

Layne grew up wanting to be an ecologist and spent her childhood training our dogs through 4H, teaching cats to come when called, and tending to our ducks, rabbits, frogs, and other species. She always had the latest Ranger Rick magazine in her room. She's a gentle and kind person, especially to animals. When she'd owned pets she'd cook the majority of their meals. I think her landlord's rules are a pity, but she's thought of a solution: she's signing up on Rover so she can be around pets again.

Schedule

I work from home full-time, so your pet will never be left alone for long. For play time, potty break, and snuggles, I'll be there. I can easily walk dogs multiple times a day and will be around most of the day to keep any dog or cat visiting me company. Sometimes I may pop out for a gym session or grocery run, but that's about it. I mostly just miss having a pet so I'll be so happy to be around yours!

Safety, trust & environment

I have no pets of my own currently. I live in a secure, quiet apartment. Depending on pet needs and temperament, they can have the run of the apartment or be limited to the main living room (which is where I work). My apartment has no yard but I'm in a great neighborhood for walks and I make sure doggies get plenty of fresh air. Since it is an apartment, if your dog is extremely active and boisterous, they may be happier boarding somewhere with more room to run.

A typical day

I love to play dogs and cats - fetch, tug of war, chase the laser pen... Outside me and the doggo can go for long walks exploring all the neighborhood smells. If your dog desires we can check out the local parks or head to the beach. I'll work during the day, taking play breaks. In the evening after dinner we can cuddle up with a book before bed. I love taking pet pics so expect plenty of updates so you won't be missing your buddy too much.
