I work from home, which gives me a lot of flexibility for pet care throughout the day. I can take dogs out for walks, potty breaks, and play sessions between work blocks, and I’m around to provide consistent companionship rather than just quick visits. For multi-day bookings, I’m happy to stay in your home so your pet can remain in their familiar environment and routine. I can also host pets in my home depending on the situation, but extended stays are usually best at the pet’s home for comfort and consistency.

Safety, trust & environment
Your pet’s safety and emotional comfort are my top priorities. I carefully follow all instructions you provide — feeding, medications, routines, walking preferences, and house rules. I’m very mindful on walks (leash use, surroundings, other dogs, traffic) and always err on the side of caution. In your home, I treat your space with the same respect I would my own. I keep environments calm, clean, and low-stress, and make sure pets have access to water, comfortable rest spots, and enrichment. Because I work remotely, pets in my care aren’t left alone for long periods, which is especially helpful for animals who need companionship or supervision. I aim to create an environment where your pet feels safe, understood, and cared for — not just watched.

Information Laurie V. would like to know about your pet
I love getting to know each pet as an individual, so the more details you can share, the better! Please let me know about: - Feeding routines and any dietary restrictions - Medications or health needs - Energy level and exercise preferences - Leash behaviour and recall reliability - How they are with other dogs, cats, or people - Any fears (loud noises, bikes, separation anxiety, etc.) - Sleep routines and favourite resting spots - For cats: litter preferences and typical behaviour (hider vs. social) I’m most experienced with small to mid-sized dogs, but I’m happy to care for larger dogs with calm temperaments. I also appreciate knowing any training cues you use so I can be consistent. My goal is to keep your pet’s routine as familiar and stress-free as possible, so nothing is too small or silly to mention — those little details help me give the best care.
A typical day
Because I work from home, pets in my care get lots of attention throughout the day rather than just morning and evening check-ins. A typical day includes regular potty breaks, at least one good walk (often more depending on your dog’s energy), and plenty of play and enrichment. I love mixing physical and mental stimulation — walks where dogs can sniff and explore, play sessions with toys, light training reinforcement (like practicing sits, stays, or leash manners if that’s part of their routine), and calm downtime so they don’t get overstimulated. For higher-energy dogs, I’m happy to do longer walks or outdoor adventures. For older or more relaxed dogs, we keep things gentle and comfortable. For cats, the day includes feeding, fresh water, litter box cleaning, and play sessions if they’re into it — wand toys, little chase games, or enrichment activities. And of course, cuddle time for pets who want affection, or peaceful companionship nearby for the more independent ones. Overall, I try to match your pet’s normal rhythm so they feel secure, engaged, and relaxed.

Pet care experience
I grew up with a small poodle mix and have been around dogs my whole life, so caring for them feels very natural to me. I’m comfortable with feeding routines, daily walks (on-leash and off-leash where appropriate), playtime, and of course lots of companionship and affection. Over the years I’ve also house-sat and pet-sat for friends with both dogs and cats, so I’m used to adapting to different personalities, energy levels, and home routines. I’m an active person who loves being outside, so dogs in my care get plenty of movement, enrichment, and attention — whether that’s neighbourhood walks, park time, or longer outings. If your dog is trained and enjoys it, I’m even happy to include them on easy bike rides. I’m most experienced with small to mid-sized dogs, but I’m also very comfortable with larger, calm dogs. I’ve administered pet medications before and am confident following specific care instructions to keep your pet healthy and comfortable. I’m very attentive to behaviour and body language, so I pick up quickly when a pet needs play, rest, space, or reassurance. What sets me apart is the balance I bring: I’m active and playful when pets want engagement, but calm and gentle when they just want to relax and feel safe.

Reviews

Laurie is fabulous. Our puppy is high energy, full of curiosity - and likes to be around humans 24/7. Laurie was kind, understanding, and took Bella in her stride. I am very grateful to Laurie, for taking amazing care of Bella.
Laurie took such great care of my dog! She was very attentive making sure she knew his needs so he had a comfortable stay. She sent some updates and photos while I was away. When I went to pick up my pup, he seemed so relaxed and happy! I would recommend Laurie to anyone needing a pet sitter!
Laurie is a responsible, caring and thoughtful person (one of the most responsible person I know). I trust her to take the best care of my pets.
Laurie is a kind, generous, and adventurous soul! She looked after our dog and cat last summer for a week and I felt relaxed knowing that she'd be getting our dog out for fun walks and making sure my high-maintenence kitty got all the love she needs. She is trustworthy and sent us some really nice updates of how things were going which made me feel comfortable.
