My veterinarian partner has taught me a lot about gentle physical maneuvering and understanding behavior signals, which helps me meet the unique needs of each pet. I strive never to push any pet, whether my own or those in my care, beyond their comfort zone. My partner's chihuahua, Tuco, requires daily hormone medication and monthly injections, which he’s become so at ease with that he remains calm and still thanks to a gentle and reassuring approach. Similarly, my late cat needed twice-daily topical thyroid medication, and though she initially disliked it, I used positive incentives to make the interaction feel consensual and stress-free. I bring this same thoughtful care to every pet I look after, building trust and creating a safe, nurturing environment tailored to their needs.
