Trust is rarely immediate and must be built with time. I take a slow approach with pets when I enter your home, making sure to keep in mind that I am a guest in their space. I always remove my shoes when entering a home, and I like to place them in an area where your pet(s) can inspect them. This is an excellent way for them to get to know me. Shy cats often love to stick their faces in my boots! I do the same with any bag that I bring, and sometimes (for cats or critters) I will remove the objects from my bag so that they can inspect them individually. While an animal and I are getting to know each other, I always ask them for permission to pet them by providing my hand in an unthreatening manner. I like to use a low, calm voice. For shy pets, I limit direct engagement, so they can get adjust to my presence. If a pet is hiding, I’ll often read aloud to them during my visit. You know your pet best; if there is any specific approach that you’d prefer I take, I am happy to do so!

I want to know your pet’s quirks! Don’t hold back; the relationship between you and I is just as important as the relationship between myself and your pet. Honesty will build trust and confidence for both of us and will ensure proper care for your pet. At the meet and greet we can chat about quirks and your pets preferences for toys, pets, and activities.

When watching your pets, I start with greeting them hello. I then check their food, water, and bathroom needs. If it’s a nice day, I will open screened windows to air out your home. Your pet decides from there if we play, have cuddles, or just coexist. Where appropriate, I like to incorporate puzzles, sniff mats, and pupsicles. **If determined OK or wanted by you**, and if scheduled time permits, here are some alternative activities I can offer. I would never, ever do these activities without request or permission, and each activity requires a detailed conversation: • Harnessed & leashed outside time for a cat • Harnessed & leashed park time for a dog • Buckled-in car time for a dog • Utilize SniffSpot to take your dog to a backyard for off-leash play I am not comfortable with any activity that involves your pet being off-leash in an open or populated area, regardless of recall. An exception would be if I have watched your pet frequently, and we have practiced this activity with you present. Due to a physical disability with my spine, I am unable to take your dog for a run or for steep hikes.

🌈Shy & Reactive Pet?👌🏻
Experiencia en el cuidado de mascotas
Hello! I am in my 30’s and my first cat adopted me when I was just a year old. The first time a stray dog followed me to his furever home, I was seven. I’m a love of dogs, cats, and anything in between! I have extensive experience with cats, from fostering semi-feral felines to volunteering for years with the Seattle Animal Shelter. I am comfortable with sensitive cats, skilled at administering medications, and a majority of my regular clients have cats who tend to be aggressive with strangers. Your cat can’t scare me; scouts honor! I have mid-level experience with dogs. I have fostered reactive dogs in the past, utilizing distractions and redirection when on walks. I often become the pet sitter for those dogs when they’re either reunited with family or find their new home. I’m the type of person dogs make eye contact with from a distance, and I always request permission from dog parents before inviting the dog to be pet. My pet sitting includes overnight l, boarding and attentive drop-ins. I don’t board more than one pet at a time (unless they’re from the same household). It’s important for me to ensure that a pet feels loved when their family is away, and I am often thanked for treating someone’s pet as if they were my own. I look forward to meeting you and your furbaby(ies)!

My cats immediately took to Laurel. She is wonderful with them and they both love her. Laurel sent us daily photos and videos and was quick to respond to messages. Laurel had no problem accommodating all of my cats random quirks. We will definitely book with Laurel again when we need someone to watch our kitties. We will definitely reach out to Laurel next time we need someone to watch our fur babies for us.

Laurel is awesome! Takes my two big floofs on good walks and they love her.

Laurel was amazing with our pup Rowan! She was great at reading him, staying calm when he got excited, and also having fun when it was play time. She is reliable and communicative if/when schedules need to shift. Thank you Laurel!

Laurel is super easy to work with and they took excellent care of my crew (dog, rabbits, and guinea pigs) while I was traveling. Laurel is clearly an animal lover and goes above and beyond to make sure they are happy, healthy, and enriched. I especially appreciate how they incorporated my dog into their normal daily life and brought toys for my herbivores to try out. And they were very respectful of my space as well!
