We are a family of four who moved from the UK to Virginia in July 2023, and one of the things we’ve loved most about settling here has been the chance to welcome dogs into our home. Since January 2024, we’ve been caring for dogs through Rover and have built up a wealth of experience with all different breeds, sizes, and personalities. Every stay has been a joy, and it’s been wonderful to see how quickly dogs settle in with our family. Both my husband and I grew up with pets (dogs for him, cats for me), and our children have also grown up with cats, so animals have always been a big part of our lives. While we’re only in the U.S. until August 2027 and aren’t looking to have a pet of our own long term, caring for dogs has become a very special part of our family life here. We moved from McLean to Old Town in June ‘24. Although our current home doesn’t have a private yard as it is a town house within shared communal gardens, we are surrounded by fantastic walking routes and green spaces, and your dog will get plenty of exercise, playtime, and attention. I am not working while we’re here, which means I can dedicate lots of time to making sure your dog feels happy, safe, and loved. In my career as a cognitive behavioural therapist in the UK, I relied on skills such as patience, empathy, and care—qualities that I also bring to the way I look after animals. We would love the chance to give your dog a home-away-from-home filled with warmth, walks, and lots of affection.

Laura was extremely reliable and also punctual when sitting our cat MiuMiu with daily drop-in visits. And she clearly is a cat person, as MiuMiu connected effortlessly with her. We will definitely pick her again next time around. Thanks Laura!
We had the best experience with Laura & Simon! Pretty sure our girl misses them already! We received daily updates and photos, very responsive and they even agreed to keep our pup an extra day when our flight was changed at the last second. Highly recommend!!
Laura and family took great care of Babette. Were responsive to a very quick ask for a cat sitter and played a lot with Babette.
My boyfriend and I were stuck and needed a sitter super last minute on the 4th of July of all holidays. Laura responded super quickly and was able to do a drop in visit for us. She really was a life saver! Would recommend her to anyone needing their dogs sat.
Laura continues to be the best! So communicative and flexible, and takes amazing care of Canela.
Our cat Flynn now likes Laura, Simon and her boys more than he likes us. He can't wait for us to leave again.

Schedule
I currently do not work and therefore have a lot of time that I can dedicate to providing animals with the company that they need. I have 2 children aged 6 and 9 who are at school Mon- Fri 7:30-2:30 and therefore the house is relatively quiet during these periods. At weekends between my husband and I there is generally someone at home.

Safety, trust & environment
We live in a 4 storey town house with plenty of space for an animal. We do not have private yard space however I will regularly take your dog out on their leash as we have communal garden areas to roam and quick access to the streets of old town. We are a smoke free house. We have 2 boys aged 6 and 9 who love animals and are very respectful/kind natured to them having grown up with cats and spent a lot of time with dogs.
A typical day
I am around to give your dog all the care and attention it needs! If your dog is staying with us then it will normally join us on the school run in the morning at 7:30 which is about a 10-15 min walk each way and then the same again at 2:30pm unless of course this is too far for your dog to walk or they are anxious around other families/dogs, in which case I will leave your dog at home. During the school day I can be as active as your pup needs, either going out and about or choosing to chill and cosy up at home! Once my boys are home your dog will always feel very much of the family getting lots of attention, play time if they wish and cuddles. We are in and out with after school activities but typically there is someone at home so your pup wouldn’t be home alone for long 🫶🏼
