Safety, trust & environment

We would welcome the chance to meet you and your dog before they come to stay with us or have a chat to go through any of their needs and answer any questions you might have. We are great at following instructions, diet and medication to ensure the animals routine isn’t upset whilst they get used to not being with their people. We love playing with dogs, I challenge them to get bored of the game before we do :) We really like the outdoors so have taken a number of dogs (only if the owners want us to) on fun car rides to the gorge or forest park to get a good adventure in. Any dog that struggles with noises, other dogs etc we’re good at taking them on longer walks or runs early or late at night so they still get plenty of exercise in a calmer environment (we’ll of course take them out in between that time too/they will have access to our fenced in yard). We’ve had to give out plenty of medication from tablets to injections and have plenty of tricks up our sleeves. We like to give owners at least one update a day but usually 2 or even more if they want that. We really respect the relationship between humans and animals so want to make the separation easier for all involved.

Information Laura & Nicholas W. would like to know about your pet

We really appreciate knowing anything about the dogs health and behaviour. We’re very comfortable adapting to any needs your dog has and know from experience that sometimes the owner isn’t aware of how an dog can change when with a new person so we’re very understanding and pay close attention to how the dog is interacting, feeding and sleeping.

A typical day

We love getting up and out as a way of starting our day, whether that's a big walk, a lengthy play in the garden or a run. We think that enrichment is so important so if they’re used to treats we’ll usually play a game around that, play with balls, tug of war and one of us will usually be rolling around the floor playing with any dogs that like that sort of play. We love walking around neighborhoods, taking dogs to cafes or breweries if they are comfortable with that and our favourite thing is to jump in the car and go hiking. We’ve introduced a lot of pet owners to new places to hike and swim for the dogs.

Experienced, loving and patient

Pet care experience

Hello, we’re Nick and Laura. I'm (Laura) from the UK and Nick is from the US, we’re married and have spent the past 1.5years back in Oregon house sitting (through this and other platforms) and have been lucky enough to travel. Alongside dog boarding and daycare I work part time with youth in downtown Portland (remote) to strengthen financial stability and growth. Nick has recently started a travel guitar business (TravelTone Guitars) and works with a vinyl record company on their machines. based here in Portland. We’ve finally put some roots down in NE Portland and LOVE it here, it’s a great area to explore with a dog, there’s parks, the gorge, rivers, walkable neighbourhoods plus bars and cafes for the dogs who enjoy those environments and getting a treat or two from the staff. We’ve had a range of animal and house sitting/boarding experiences both together and separately around the UK, Canada and USA. Both have experience with shelter dogs with Nick having fostered 16 dogs over the years and I have volunteered at a shelter. We’ve both grown up with dogs and while our current lifestyle doesn’t fit with having our own dog we absolutely love taking care of others. We feel very comfortable and confident in looking after dogs husbandry, dietary and enrichment needs. I have a professional background in animal welfare so we pride ourselves on putting any dog in our care first. We have worked with and looked after a lot of rescue dogs, most of which have some sort of behavioural, emotional or physical need that we take time to meet and manage. We aren’t put-off by a dog who is shy, needs time to build up trust with us and needs their training to be continued while they are in our care. We have had a lot of experience in that area and know that our patience gets greatly rewarded when the dog knows they can trust us and feels safe with us. We are confident in taking dogs of all sizes out for walks and are happy to do so with dogs that get triggered by other dogs, loud noises or cars. We respect animal / human relationships so have always updated the people we have pet-sat for with photos and videos as often as they want. Our yard is fenced, animals are allowed on our furniture if that;s what they are used to doing and we live in a quiet neighbourhood but with enough going on so that with the curtains drawn your dog can get some great people watching in (we keep the curtains shut for any pup who gets stressed out or over excited by passersby).

Laura and Nicholas are such nice people and they took really great care of my little puppy Edie while I worked a very long shift. They are very thoughtful and accommodating and so easy to work with. I felt very safe leaving my tiny doggie with them and she had a blast. I got lots of cute pictures and fun updates all day long

Laura and Nick are expert pet sitters! Cleo has such a fun weekend whenever they watch her, which gives us so much peace of mind knowing she is happy. They do a great job sending lots of pictures, taking Cleo on long walks and outings, and are prepared with extra dog supplies on hand in case it’s needed. This is the first dog sitter we’ve used- are all dog sitters this awesome?!

Laura and Nick are great! My pup can be shy/anxious, but he settled right in with them and had a great weekend. I will definitely rebook next time I need a sitter.

Laura and Nick were so wonderful. Gave us constant reassurance our pups were having the best time and were being looked after and loved on. So communicative and kind, heeded every concern and wish while we were gone. Beyond grateful to have found them and can’t wait for them to watch the dogs during our next long trip!
