When my eighteen-year-old family dog died in 2015, my mom and I felt adrift. We weren't ready to get a new dog, but we missed that canine connection. Our neighbors, sensing our pain, chose us to care for their dog while they went on vacation. We then opened our own home to dogs of all stripes, adapting to each one's unique needs and personality. Word spread quickly, and we soon expanded our client base to coworkers, churchgoers, and friends of friends, with many satisfied repeat customers. Owners preferred this type of individualized attention for their dogs, which a kennel would be unable to provide. There was also the added bonus of remote work as my main source of income, meaning the dogs would have someone at home with them all day! I now live alone, and sadly, there are no dogs allowed in my building. I've never lost my love for them, though (I always say dogs are the world's most powerful antidepressant), and I'm also willing to open my heart and home to cats!
