I earn a living through a mix of substitute teaching (summer starts June 25th!), remote research and writing gigs, tutoring, child care, and pet care. I have a flexible schedule and incorporate pet care into the mix as much as possible because I love animals. If I am boarding a dog at my home, I will not be house sitting at that time (and vice versa). While boarding or house sitting, I will consider dog walking and drop-ins depending on the needs of the client and driving distance. If you board your dog at my home, my cats and I wake up early (about 6am) and I like to go outside for a walk down the power line road right away, and then eat breakfast. Your dog will be able to spend time with me all day (on a leash when we are outside), and if I need to leave my house, they will be in their crate for no more than 4 hours (2 is my strong preference). We will go for at least one more walk before dinner, too. I will be sure to give them plenty of play time and exercise throughout the day (depending on their level of activity and how hot it is outside). No matter what, they will get a lot of love and attention!

Safety, trust & environment
I live in a cabin in the woods in the Town of Boston, NY, so although I do not have a fenced-in yard, there is very little traffic or people around. I will be able to go on long leashed walks with your dog down the power line for exercise, and there are a few friendly neighbor dogs that would love to say hello if your dog is up for that. I do live with two cats: one of them will hide a lot while your dog is here, but the other is very dog-friendly and will want to interact with your dog. I will monitor and separate them as needed (I have a spare room). I have always crate-trained my dogs and so long as your dog is comfortable in their crate, I will use it as a safe place for them to be while they are staying with me.

Information Laura E. would like to know about your pet
I definitely want to schedule a meet and greet with you and your pet(s) before I care for them for the first time. I want to know about their routines, medical needs, likes and dislikes, fears, history of illness, history of aggression, and any other important information you want me to know about. I am open to caring for all types of dogs, cats, and even other animals, but I definitely want to get to know them (and their families) first! I look forward to meeting you and your pets! 🐾
A typical day
First and foremost, I will give the pets that I watch the amount of love and attention that they are seeking out from me. I know that they are missing their people and I want them to feel comfortable with me. After that I will give them a lot of exercise in the form of walks for dogs, and chase toys for cats that bring out their hunting instincts. I also want to replicate the fun activities that they already like to do, so it will be important for me to learn about their favorite activities when we meet before I care for them!

Pet care experience
I have been taking care of animals for as long as I can remember and have been pet-sitting since age 10 for family, friends, and neighbors. I have almost always lived with at least one cat or dog (or both!) throughout my life. I also have experience caring for rabbits, ferrets, gerbils, fish, parakeets, bearded dragons, and cockatiels. I currently live with two indoor tortoiseshell cats who are comfortable with dogs, and one of my cats is leash-trained. I have raised and trained at least 11 dogs from puppies to adulthood (3 as my own and the others for my parents). Most of my cats I adopted as teenagers, but I have raised a few kittens from a young age. I have done extensive dog training with the 3 dogs I raised as my own in the past, and I am familiar with both dog and cat training techniques. I live in a cabin the woods in Boston, NY, on a power line gravel road. Although I do not have a fenced in back yard, your dog will enjoy going on leashed walks down the power line road multiple times per day!

Reviews
Laura is an incredibly responsible, caring, and attentive pet caregiver. She genuinely loves animals and goes above and beyond to make sure they feel safe, comfortable, and well cared for. I would trust Laura with any pet and highly recommend her to anyone looking for dependable and compassionate care!
As far back as I can remember,Laura has always had a special love for animals. Laura has owned and/or been the primary care giver for many many pets. She has a unique gift in being able to communicate personally and directly with each animal she meets. As a pet owner, Laura has experienced all the highs and lows of caring for pets. She has recently "babysat" (cared for) our pets successfully both short term and long term. Laura is dependable, responsible and trustworthy and I have no reservations in recommending her to any pet owner who would like someone to care for their pets whenever they are unable.
Laura is a very responsible and loving pet caregiver. She has cared for our cats, 2 dogs and 9 chickens. I know she has had cats and dogs , fish in aquariums, birds, & even a reptile over the years. I trust her completely with our pets. She loves them and they love her… they are always so happy to see her. I would not hesitate to have Laura care for my pets. I feel very confident that they are getting the best care and lots of love.
