Pet care experience

Patient care for every dog

I’ve had dogs around me for most of my life. I had my Yorkshire Terrier from a puppy until she was 15, so I’ve experienced everything from puppyhood right through to the senior years. I’ve also spent years around friends’ dogs, looking after them and taking them out for walks, and very briefly volunteered at a local dog rescue where I walked rescue dogs and gave them some much needed time away from the kennels. I now have Leo, my larger Romanian rescue dog, who has been with me for over a year. He can be reactive towards some dogs when he’s on lead, so having him has taught me a huge amount about dog body language, managing distance, recognising when a dog is uncomfortable and working with them rather than forcing them into situations they aren’t ready for. I’m very patient with dogs and understanding of rescues, nervous dogs or dogs who just need a bit more space and time. I use kind, force free, reward based methods and I’m happy to follow whatever routines, training cues and instructions you already use with your dog.

Safety, trust & environment

Before looking after a dog for the first time, I’d prefer to arrange a meet and greet so I can get to know them and learn about their usual routine, walking equipment, training cues and anything they might find difficult. I use kind, force free handling and I’m happy to follow whatever you already do with your dog. I’ll keep them safely on lead on walks unless specifically agreed otherwise, make sure doors and gates are secure and treat your home and keys with care. I’ll also send photos and a little update afterwards so you know how they’ve got on, because I know I’d want exactly the same with Leo!

Laura is a genuinely lovely person who clearly cares very deeply for animals including her amazing pup Leo! She has always shown me and my nervous dog kindness and Vesper is definitely a big fan of her. She is kind, considerate and trustworthy and I would be happy to have her look after Vesper if I ever needed.

I have known Laura for almost 2 years now as we attend the same dog training classes and wellbeing walks together. I have been so impressed with her patience and commitment to her own dogs training. Her love and devotion to his care and development is second to none. On a personal note Laura has always shown support and kindness to myself and those around her.

I have known Laura for nearly 2 years now, all through working with her and her rescue dog. I can confidently say that Laura is dedicated, considerate and has such paitience when it comes to dogs. She's faced a few hurdles with her own dog, providing her with hands on experience living, managing and training dogs. She has been around various breeds showing a kind, fun loving attitude which dogs seem to gravitate to. May I also mention she has a lovely cat, whom she's never pushed the needs of aside to make room for her new dog. She's worked hard to ensure both can now live harmoniously together. I would happily trust Laura with any of my dogs who all, like many, have various needs.

I know Laura as a friend and fellow dog owner. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her as a pet sitter as she is kind, knowledgeable and reliable. I would trust her to look after my dog as I know she would treat him like her own and he would be loved and given exceptional care.

Schedule

I’m self employed and mainly work from home, so I can be quite flexible with dog walks and drop in visits around my design work. My availability does vary from week to week, but I’ll keep my Rover calendar updated and only accept bookings I know I can reliably commit to. I may also be available for same day or last minute visits, so it’s always worth asking!

Please let me know as much as you can about your pet beforehand; their normal routine, likes and dislikes, any health or dietary needs, training cues and anything they can find difficult or worrying. For dogs, I’d particularly like to know how they are around other dogs, people, traffic and anything else we might come across on a walk. Reactive or nervous dogs don’t put me off at all, I’d just rather know beforehand so I can keep them comfortable and set them up for a nice walk.
