Since I work from home, pet care fits naturally into my day rather than being something separate I have to schedule around. I'm already taking breaks throughout the day, so walks and check ins happen regularly rather than being crammed into mornings and evenings. If a dog needs a midday walk or just some extra attention between naps, I'm already there for it. I also don't have a rigid 9 to 5 schedule that would leave a dog alone for long stretches, so I can adjust to whatever routine works best for them, whether that means sticking to their normal feeding and walk times or just being flexible if plans change.

In my own home, I make sure a dog has a calm space to settle into, plenty of water, regular walks, and company throughout the day since I'm almost always home. I like to keep to their normal feeding and walk schedule as much as possible so the transition feels easy for them, and I'm around to keep an eye on them rather than leaving them alone for long periods. When I'm caring for a pet in their own home, I focus on keeping things familiar for them. That means sticking to their regular routine, feeding them where and when they're used to, taking them on walks at the times they're used to, and giving them attention in their own space so they don't feel disrupted by a new person being there. I always make sure to leave things exactly as I found them too.

A typical day
Walks are the main event for me, whether that's a relaxed stroll around the neighborhood or a longer walk if a dog has energy to spare and wants to explore a bit more. I like paying attention to what each dog actually enjoys rather than doing the same thing with every pet, so if they love sniffing around a park, playing fetch, or just hanging out while I work, I'll build the day around that. For dogs that are more playful, I'm happy to do some fetch or tug of war, and for the more laid back ones, I'm just as happy to relax with them at home and let them nap nearby while I get things done.

Hey! I'm Laryssa from Brazil and I've been living in Norway for ~2 years. I grew up with dogs my whole life, so being around them just feels normal to me. It's like something's missing if there isn't a dog nearby. Walks are my favorite part of having a dog around, and I'm happy to do both short and long walks. I live close to many parks and short distances to the marka so I am happy to take them for long trips. I work from home, so I'm around basically all day. That means your dog won't be sitting alone for hours. I can stick to their usual schedule, whether that's certain walk times, feeding routines, or just knowing when they need to go out.
