Pet care fits into my routine pretty easily because I currently have a part-time job with a very variable schedule. Since my shifts change from week to week, I’m generally flexible and available most days with some notice. This flexibility allows me to adjust around pet care responsibilities like feeding, walks, check-ins, or overnight stays when needed. I’m also used to planning my time in a way that ensures animals are consistently cared for, even on busier days, so I can reliably fit pet care into my weekly schedule.

Safety, trust & environment
In my home, I would make sure any pet is cared for in a safe, comfortable, and supervised environment. While my apartment doesn’t have a backyard, there is a fenced-in area nearby where dogs can run, play fetch, and get exercise. I also have a car, so if the owner is comfortable with it, I can take the dogs to a dog park for additional enrichment and activity. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I prioritize keeping their routine as consistent as possible—feeding schedules, walks, playtime, and any special care instructions are followed closely. I’m also very mindful of respecting the home itself. I was raised to always leave a place cleaner than I found it, so I make sure everything is kept tidy, organized, and exactly as I found it. Communication is also important to me, so I always update owners and let them know right away if anything seems off or if there are any concerns about their pet’s health, behavior, or well-being.

Information Kyra N. would like to know about your pet
**Basic care routine** The feeding schedule, portion sizes, treats, and any dietary restrictions. Also, their normal daily routine—when they’re used to walks, playtime, and sleeping—so I can keep things as consistent as possible. **Medical needs & health history** Any medications, allergies, past injuries, or health conditions are critical. I’d also want vet contact information and what to do in case of an emergency. **Behavior & temperament** How the pet behaves around strangers, other animals, and in new environments. Also, any triggers (loud noises, separation anxiety, aggression, etc.) and how the owner typically handles them. **Exercise & activity level** I’d want to know their energy level, favorite activities, and any limitations. **House rules & training** Things like whether the pet is allowed on furniture, crate-trained, potty-trained, or has any specific commands they respond to. **Safety details** Leash behavior, escape tendencies, anything they might chew or get into, and whether they can be taken to places like dog parks. **Comfort & preferences** Favorite toys, sleeping spots, routines, or anything that helps them feel secure while their owner is away.
A typical day
When I watch pets, I focus on activities that match their energy levels, personalities, and routines so they stay comfortable and engaged. For dogs, I like to mix physical exercise with mental stimulation. That can include walks around the neighborhood, trips to a dog park (if they’re social and the owner is okay with it), and games like fetch or tug. I also use enrichment activities like treat puzzles or hide-and-seek with toys to keep them mentally active, not just physically tired. For more relaxed or older dogs, I keep things lower impact—short walks, lots of attention, and calm companionship so they still feel cared for without being overwhelmed. With cats, I focus more on interactive play and comfort. That includes using toys like feather wands or laser pointers, giving them space when they want it, and spending time petting or brushing them if they enjoy it. I also make sure their environment stays clean and stress-free. No matter the pet, I try to stick closely to their normal routine and preferences, because that’s what keeps them happiest while their owner is away.

I love animals!
Pet care experience
I have been taking care of animals since I was 10. I have cared for a blind senior cat as well as a cat with hip problems, which required patience, close monitoring, and adapting the environment to keep them safe and comfortable. I currently help care for my friend’s senior dog, who also has hip and dental issues, so I’m familiar with administering gentle support, maintaining comfort, and being attentive to mobility limitations and pain cues. In addition, I have experience caring for younger animals, including kittens and puppies around 12 weeks old. This has given me practice with high-energy care, feeding routines, supervision, and basic early-life behavior management. Overall, I’m comfortable working with both senior pets and young animals, and I adjust my care style based on each pet’s specific health, energy level, and personality needs.
