Availability
I have an open schedule since I work from home. This means I am able to be with your pet for the entirety of the stay. You will not have to worry about your pet being alone while I go to work elsewhere. My husband also works from home and stays with our dog during my bookings. I am usually available same day with some exceptions. I have many repeat clients, so during the holidays it is highly recommended you book as far in advance as you can since holiday spots fill up several months in advance.

Safety, trust & environment
I like book at least one drop-in appointment before I agree to an overnight stay (Drop-in fee can be lat I am currently only taking new house sitting clients as I am in the process of buying my own home with a fenced yard. HOME SAFETY: Preventing escapes is my top priority. While I am at your home, I make sure all doors are locked and all gates are latched when I am inside. The dogs I care for are leashed at all times while outside unless they have a fenced in yard. I supervise all outdoor time. When I leave to go outside, I make sure dogs are secured in a kennel or in a separate room. This prevents dogs from trying to run out the door. While I will rarely need to leave during my stay, I may run quick errands like going to the store, and when they happens I will make sure dogs are kenneled or put in a secure room so they will be safe until I return. WALKS: I ask all pet owners provide reliable walking equipment. This ideally means a harness with a leash and a second leash. I like to use two leashes on all pets I walk because it is good to have a backup in case a leash snaps. I also bring my own walking belt that clips on to me as another precautionary measure. I ask that all owners understand that I take safety during walks extremely seriously, and if I feel that your dog isn't safe with a specific walking route or if I feel the equipment provided to me is not adequate, I will not take any risks until I feel we have found a safe route and have the right equipment for your dog. For dogs that tug extremely hard (I get it, I trained my husky to stop tugging), I bring specific no-slip leashes that were provided to me by a local dog training company. If I am worried your dog may tug and snap out of their equipment, please be aware that I may swap out their leash for those specific training leashes instead. I would not recover if anything happened to one of my clients under my care, so please be understanding that I will always err on the side of caution.
Information Ky R. would like to know about your pet
I need to know if your dog takes any medications or has any special conditions I should be aware of. I have cared for dogs with special medical needs in the past, so I am able to accommodate with the appropriate instructions. I need to know how your dogs respond to other people and animals. Do they tug and get excited when they see wildlife while on their walks? If so, we might have to take extra precautions with their harness and leash. I also need to know if your dog has a history of aggression and how they respond to people they aren't super familiar with coming into their home without their parents there. I recently learned that a dog that might seem fine when their parents are with them at the meet and greet can become aggressive when their parents aren't there. I also would like to know how they respond to other dogs. I sometimes take dogs to dog parks (with permission) and would need to know if they are uncomfortable with other dogs before I do that.
A typical day
Since I started with Rover my bookings start with me arriving at the home and taking several photos to let the owners aware of my arrival. Clients usually leave me a schedule that includes feeding, walking, and medication schedule. I like to take dogs on two to three walks a day, but that is dependent on their abilities, needs, and the preference of their owner. During most of the day, I like to cuddle and play with dogs in my care. I often play fetch and tug. With owner permission, I sometimes take dogs to the local dog park so they can play outside. Dogs are taken out frequently for potty breaks. I take my husky on walks/runs twice a day. Once in the morning and once in the evening. Throughout the day, I use tug toys and other stimulating toys to keep her engaged and busy. I like to cuddle with my dog too. I take her out once an hour. We like to walk on nature trails. I take her to the dog park to run off leash once a week.

Pet care experience
Update: I am now a new homeowner, so I now have a home with a fenced yard, so if you are looking to board your pet, I will be opening those services hopefully by summer. Hi! I'm Ky. I am among the very few sitters who has never cancelled on a client, never had a dog escape due to strict safety precautions, and never had a dog have an emergency in my care. I also have additional insurance so you can have peace of mind. I have stuck with my commitments through my own personal emergencies and extenuating circumstances. You will never get a call from me saying I can't do it, because I will find a solution. My family ran a word of mouth dogsitting business in a small community and when I moved to Des Moines, I learned about Rover. I have since been running the business on my own, and have had a very successful time on here. I have always lived with dogs, they are everything to me, and I know the anxiety that leaving a beloved family member in a strangers care can cause. You can count on me to communicate and document all of my care through the stay. I always meet first and the vast majority of time, even timid dogs love me and immediately respond well. I have a calming presence and I do not yell. I use positive reinforcement. I joined Rover because I love animals and I have the privilege of working from home with a flexible schedule which means I am able to be at home with your pets for the entirety of my stay. You will not have to worry if your pets are okay while I work and 8 hour shift elsewhere. Currently, I am a mom to a Siberian Husky and a grey cat. My dog is an extremely well-trained husky who I trained to sit at the door and wait for permission to leave. Huskies are the great escape artists, so I learned every safety precaution in the book to keep her safe because when huskies escape, they run, so I treat all dogs as if they were a husky to prevent any incidents. I always supervise outside play, I double leash when walking, I keep doors locked while inside and have even put up baby gates in front of doors to prevent a dog rushing the door. If I leave, I do a headcount. For cats, I remain conscientious and ensure they are in another room when opening front and back doors. I have worked with indoor/outdoor cats, but I would rather not due to anything happening and not wanting to have that on my conscience. I walk my husky twice a day, sometimes for several miles, but for Rover expect 1-2 walks that last a mile. I also have experience with bathing, feeding, and very basic training (I'm not a trainer though, so please don't use me in replacement for one). I use positive reinforcement to communicate with dogs I care for. I bring escape proof leashes with me to every job. If you agree to hire me and I become nervous about a dog that tugs and could potentially break his or harness, I will either have to switch to my equipment or not walk. If you hire me, I very well may have to use my own equipment, but it's for their protection when in my care (my husky used to tug and break through harnesses and collars before we trained her, her trainer gave us specific leashes that do no allow escape no matter how hard she tugs and she has had zero problems since.

Reviews

Ky was great as always! Flexible, great communication with lots of pics and we know our dogs well cared for.
Exceptional service! Ky went above and beyond with a difficult job and I trust her completely to be using her again! Love this dog walker! Thanks Ky for your hard work and communication! I appreciate your conscientious approach towards safety and your knowledge of huskies as a breed, you are very passionate about them! I felt Bolt and Tink were in good hands and during walks, you were very good at communicating your safety procedures, including documenting your route, length of walk, and everything you did during your drop in!

Always a joy having ky watch River! Despite the insane weather while we were gone she made sure River got her walks in and took excellent care of her! Love getting all the pictures from their walks/play time

As always, Ky was great! We came home to happy dogs!
