Before caring for any pet, I like to learn as much as possible so I can keep their routine consistent and stress-free. Important things I ask about include feeding schedules, walk routines, favorite toys and activities, and any medications or special care needs. I also like to know about their personality — whether they’re more energetic or relaxed, social or independent, and if they have any fears, triggers, or sensitivities. Understanding how they respond to new people, other animals, or certain environments helps me adjust my approach and make them feel more comfortable. For safety, I ask about things like leash behavior, escape tendencies, dietary restrictions, and emergency contacts, including their vet information. The more I know ahead of time, the better I can provide care that feels familiar, safe, and tailored to each pet’s unique needs.

I love getting to know each pet’s personality and building activities around what makes them happiest. For dogs, that might mean fun walks, playtime with their favorite toys, a little game of fetch, or even some light training practice (with lots of praise, of course!). If they’re more laid-back, I’m just as happy to slow it down with belly rubs, cuddle time, or just hanging out together. For cats, I come prepared to earn their approval 😸 — whether that’s wand toys, laser play, or simply being a calm, respectful presence until they decide I’m worthy of their attention. If they’re playful, we play. If they prefer to supervise from a distance, I fully respect that too. I also like to mix in simple enrichment like treat games or hide-and-seek to keep things interesting and engaging. At the end of the day, I follow their lead — whether your pet is energetic, independent, or somewhere in between, I make sure they feel safe, entertained, and genuinely cared for (with a little fun along the way!).
