I am an early riser and love staying active and engaged, whether that means sitting quietly with a pet or going on a long walk. I also have flexibility throughout the afternoon and evenings to drop-in during my work hours to let an animal out, give the animal medication, and/or tend to any other needs. Pet care is wholly part of my life and work.

Safety, trust & environment

My main focus with any pet is to make the animal as comfortable as possible and adapt to the animal’s needs. I enjoy playing with animals, training them, and spending time getting to know their personalities.

Information Kimmy S. would like to know about your pet

I have no breed preferences, but would like to know about any behavior issues a dog may have so that I don't do anything to cause additional stress on the animal. I do not have any problems with behavior issues, but I want to make sure I know the best ways to approach an animal who I am meeting for the first time.

A typical day

I love taking dogs for walks and helping them burn energy and have fun. I also enjoy relaxing with pets and comforting them if they are anxious, stressed, or not physically able to go on walks. When I take dogs for walks, I make sure we go to a safe area with sidewalks and low traffic; usually I will go around a park or water area with activity that is distant enough to avoid any potential unwanted meets with other pets, animals, or humans, but within eyesight to keep their brains moving and engaged.

Dogs are my life.

Pet care experience

Aside from growing up with dogs, I have had several positions at the Champaign County Humane Society, including the Foster Care Coordinator, the Animal Care Supervisor & Surgery Assistant (I have also worked in Adoptions and Medical Lab). Just some of my responsibilities included provided the feeding, cleaning, and general care for shelter pets, modifying challenging behavior in dogs, administering medication to animals, and prepping/monitoring patients under anesthesia (occasionally scrubbing in to emergency surgeries). Working in the shelter, I've handled reptiles, small mammals, cats, dogs, and birds. I've personally owned dogs, cats, birds, fish, and hamsters, but dogs will always have my heart! I grew up with a German Shepherd, but love working with any and all dogs. I am very patient with animals and understand that every dog is an individual who needs specific attention and unique care. My patience has proven to be a strong characteristic for dogs who are high energy, elderly, sick, or timid. Many of them need special time set aside so they are still enriched and kept healthy and happy, which is one of the most satisfying feelings in the world. Dogs truly are the best.

Kimmy was an excellent pet and house sitter! We have two active dogs and an elderly cat and when we came home, they were so calm and happy, which was all we needed to know! They were well cared for, our house looked great and we could relax while we were away! I could tell when she came to meet them how great she was with behavior and reading their body language. Georgie was instantly enthralled! We will absolutely book Kimmy again!

Kimberly did a super job with our lively beagles. The next time we need a dog sitter, we will try to hire her. She is responsible and our dogs loved her. We also appreciated her willingness to do a “meet and greet” for her first time here.
