I'm a recent MSc graduate student working towards a future PhD, and I spend the majority of my day working from home, or out on a hike so pet care fits in quite well! An added bonus of pet care is that it provides a mutualistic care benefit - dogs that prefer being around people during the day which comforts the owner knowing their pet is safe, and provides me with some stress relief during busy days!

Safety, trust & environment

When pets are in the owner's home I take every safety precaution possible to reduce any risks for the safety of their home as well as the pet’s safety (e.g not leaving food out on the counters, putting the dog in their crate when leaving if needed). Have a look at some my favourite dogs and their owners reviews for further safety and trust in your future booking!

Information Kiarra S. would like to know about your pet

Can they be off leash? if so, do they have good recall? (Not necessary to be off leash just a preference) How do they interact with other dogs? Friendly/Timid/Aggressive/Barking (Just a preference so I can choose walk routes specific to the dog- e.g. Parks for social dogs, quiet trails for dogs that prefer to walk solo). Do they have destructive tendencies when left alone/separation anxiety? (it just helps me make sure nothing gets destroyed!) REACTIVE DOGS: I work with reactive dogs on a daily basis - whether it be dog-aggressive, anxious or dog-reactive, I feel really comfortable in my ability to read a dog's body language and know when to divert from a situation at the first sign of discomfort. That being said, I require dog-aggressive dogs to be muzzled while on a walk with me (muzzle can be put on before walk and taken off after). This is a non-negotiable and due to a nasty bite I received by a dog I had walked for 4+ years, solely because I was the closest thing to release his discomfort about the situation (this was NOT the dogs fault, it was an unlucky situation), but I've realised how quickly things can go wrong in a split second, and had there been a muzzle, I would not have gone to A&E! It is purely something to keep me safe.

A typical day

I love hiking, and being out on long walks is part of my daily routine. I usually travel to trails that are more quiet and out of the city, e.g the trails in Kingswells & Woodend and for closer walks you’ll always catch me down in Rosemount with a coffee! On weekends I've taken to trail walking, usually about 20-30 mins outside of the city and hikes range from 8km-15km.

Pet care experience

Since I was born, I’ve been raised with cats and dogs consistently throughout my life. I remember walking my neighbours dogs alone since I was 9 as I travelled the world with my family. From French Bulldogs to Golden Retrievers, to American XL Bulldogs and Bullmastiffs, there’s really no dog that I can’t look after. Neighbours relied on me to bathe, feed, walk and petsit their dogs and cats for up to 2 months at a time and loved every day of it! I’m currently a recently graduated Master's student and while exploring PhD opportunities I have plenty of free time, perfect for me to fully dedicate my time to pet care. I previously worked on Rover my whole undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and was such a great experience for me, and I feel very grateful to have the support to continue my business post-degrees completion. I truly believe a good pet sitter is one you can trust, especially when it comes to looking after your favourite furry friend. As a pet sitter, I will always respect the owners rules and boundaries, and communication is very important towards a healthy relationship between pet sitter and owner. I currently work with puppies in training, kittens, senior dogs and cats with medication prescription, reactive dogs, and the usual lazy bones! FOR REACTIVE DOGS PLEASE SEE THE BOTTOM OF: "Information Kiarra S. would like to know about your pet".

Can't thank Kiarra enough for putting our minds at easy whilst on holiday. The updates everyday and seeing how relaxed our cat was with her really helped us enjoy our time away. 10/10, will recommend and use again the future

This is the first time we had used this service for our labrador Lola and we were a little bit nervous as to how she would respond. However, Kiarra seemed to have the magic touch putting her at ease almost immediately. Kiarra's communication was excellent, sending us photos of Lola doing all her favourite things. This allowed us to relax and enjoy our holiday. Lola seemd very settled when we got back - already missing Kiarra i think. We would have no hesitation in using Kiarra again and are already looking at dates.

Kiarra is genuinely amazing with Loki. She is kind and loving with her, but equally puts in place clear boundaries. She is so good at reinforcing our expectations for our (sometimes tricky) doggo. We feel very lucky to have found her on Rover and would recommend her 100%.
