When caring for pets in a client’s home, I focus on maintaining their normal routine to reduce stress and keep them comfortable. I follow all feeding, walking, playtime and medication instructions as provided. Before caring for a pet, it’s important for me to know their daily routine, feeding schedule, allergies or dietary restrictions, medications or medical conditions and any behavioral quirks such as anxiety, reactivity or fears. I also like to understand how they interact with other animals and people, their favorite toys, comfort items and any house rules they’re used to. The more I understand about a pet’s personality and needs ahead of time, the better I can provide safe, consistent and loving care. For everyone’s peace of mind, I also require an emergency contact and preferred veterinarian information in case of urgent or unexpected situations.
A typical day
I enjoy keeping both dogs and cats happy, active, and engaged through activities tailored to their personality and energy level. For dogs, this may include neighborhood walks, playtime with favorite toys, fetch, gentle training reinforcement and puzzle games. For cats, I provide interactive play with wand toys and laser pointers, treat puzzles, enrichment activities and calm companionship for cuddling or independent play. I always adjust activities to match each pet’s age, comfort level and routine to ensure they feel safe, stimulated and loved.
