Ivy League Dog Sitter

Hi, I'm Keith, a 34-year-old Cornell graduate that grew up in a family of animal lovers! My Dad worked in the animal health industry his whole life and he instilled in us the love of taking care of dogs and all animals since I was a little boy growing up on our farm. My first dog was an older border collie named Amy I got as a five-year-old and I've been raising them ever since. The dog that shines brightest in my memory is Snowy, our family dog from when I was 11-23 years old (the white lab/retriever looking mix in the pics). We used to race hundreds of miles up and down our half-mile long driveway in Upstate NY as Snowy could run 30-32mph in his prime! We truly grew up together and after university, Snowy and I moved across the country to the mountains of Colorado where he enjoyed his namesake fully until he passed away several years ago. The joy that he brought to my family, friends, strangers and patients while volunteering in the hospital is something I'll never forget. I'm passionate about helping ease the difficulties of pet ownership for others so that they too can hopefully have the bond that Snowy and I will always have. In the last 10+ years, I've traveled long term through 80ish countries and thus have decided to wait until I lead a more consistent lifestyle to bring a new puppy into my life. However, I have been very fortunate to have the opportunity to house and pet sit for a number of friends and strangers around the world. If you have a 4-legged friend that needs a new buddy, I'm your man! I am very flexible so don't be afraid to reach out if you need someone anytime at the last minute. Most of my pet and house sitting has not come to me through Rover otherwise I'd easily have 75+ references here but happy to provide other references from Airbnb where I'm a 11-time Superhost etc. I have no set schedule. I am completely free to plan my days around your dogs. I usually make up my plans the day of. Whatever you wish is my command as it is easy for me to adopt whatever rules you prefer so your pets can have familiar consistency.

Keith was an excellent and trustworthy house/dog sitter for my beloved Frenchie in our home in northern New Jersey. He kept our place very clean, kept us updated on how Frenchie was doing and made sure he got his medicine every day. I would happily recommend Keith to anyone that needs pet/home sitting.

Keith was wonderful with our three doggos, sent lots of cute/fun pictures and the house was spotless, everything looked exactly as we had left it! I would recommend this sweet guy to anyone, your furry friends will thank you!

Keith was an excellent house/dog sitter in Charlotte, gave me savvy tips on bettering the house and left my place much cleaner than he found it. He was also very good with my dog. He's a worldly traveler, very intelligent with a wonderful sense of humor. I miss him! You can't go wrong with this gentleman.

Keith has done house sitting for my cat several times now and has been incredible for my very needy/affectionate cat, Kevin. I feel super comfortable leaving for periods of time and knowing he will get all the love and affection and play time to keep him happy! He also seems to know the exact moments I'm missing him and sends photo/video updates. Besides being a great catsitter, he always takes great care of my home while I'm away. Thank you, I appreciate you and so does Kevin!!

Drop-In Visits • Mar 01, 2017

Keith helped out with a midday drop-in visit to keep my blind senior pup happy. A challenge for some to take Beacon for a walk, Keith got him down several flights of stairs and out for a walk. I appreciated the thorough notes and pixs.

How Keith explains his awareness of doggie psychology is spot on! I've seen Keith around his family dog, a golden retriever that was with them throughout many of Keith's growing up years, and he's a natural around animals although I know a lot of thought and consideration has gone into his interactions with the dog world. He has an understanding of how dogs think and what they need to feel safe and relaxed. He's welcome to sit our 15 year old Border Collie, and frankly, that's saying something big because he's high maintenance.

A typical day

I have a large 4bdr condo to myself in a quiet East Vail cul-de-sac, less than a 3-minute walk to Big Horn Park, East Vail's large, beautiful off-leash dog park. I like to hike/run the East Vail trails if your dog can keep up/needs a lot of exercise, as I'm extremely outdoorsy and athletic. I also love sports and as an athlete, I don't need a Chuck-It to play fetch all day because a lacrosse stick throws much farther. I take great enjoyment in the challenge of wearing out even the most energetic big dogs! But rest assured, I can also be as sweet and caring of the oldest, smallest, most gentle dogs as I need to be. Reading people and dogs is definitely one of my strongest skills, honed in my extensive travels and interactions with thousands of people and dogs around the world. When you spend many years surrounded by creatures that don't communicate in the same language as you, you learn to read all of the body language, physical cues, and subtle behavioral changes which helps you understand most of the communication between beings is not about speaking the same language. In short, I'm very adept at understanding a dog's body language, mannerisms and behaviors.

I have no breed preferences and don't usually encounter too much trouble in shaping a dog to my will. At 6'3 and 185lbs, I like to exude an air of confidence around a new dog of a strong alpha and make plain to them who is in control of the situation. I'm not saying I'm the dog whisperer Cesar Milan, but I certainly know how to train and handle dogs both well trained and those that are more unruly. I would like to know everything the owner wants me to know. With dogs, it's all about routine and continuity so as much as I can imitate the experience you want me to provide for your dog and "leave no trace" of my presence, the better. For housesitting, I'm an Airbnb Superhost and have impeccable Couchsurfing references from my many years of traveling. I guarantee you will return to a cleaner home than you left.
