Pet care experience
Duke alum, high needs specialist
I recently completed my undergraduate degree at Duke. While I have started working on building a business, I love working with animals, and animal training is where I can really shine. Growing up in rural NC, I learned to care for both farm animals and house pets from a very young age. I began fostering stray animals when I was five and haven't stopped caring for animals since. From hatching and raising game birds (chicken and quail) to working with horses to nursing orphaned goats, I've done it all. I'm so grateful to have been working with Rover for seven years now. In that time, I've cared for all kinds of animals, from your average Spot and Fluffy to a whole menagerie complete with ducks, geese, chickens, deer, raccoons, and many other forms of wildlife. I have extensive experience with geriatric pups/cats who need extra love and care (and medicines such as oral pills, suppositories, insulin shots, etc). I have lots of experience with untrained puppies, dogs/cats who suffer from anxiety, and animals with a history of abuse. While not formally certified, I have extensive experience with classical conditioning as well as positive reinforcement training. Translation: I understand animal behavior and how to work with them, not against them. Basic obedience, reactivity, anxiety, routine-building, and high-energy behaviors are my strong suits. I also love adding in fun stuff. For example, Boomie (my dog) loves helping me load the laundry and bringing me items that he knows by name (slippers, hat, treat pouch, etc). No matter their quirks, I can support your animals’ needs. Important note for prospective house sitting clients: I bring my pup with me for overnights. He is excellent with both dogs and cats. He comes with me pretty much everywhere I go, so he will not be left alone in your house. If your dog does not do well with other dogs, I will consider making arrangements to leave him at my house on a case-by-case basis.

Safety, trust & environment
I pride myself on providing excellent service, every time, for every client, no matter how specialized their needs are. I make sure your fur baby feels safe and comfortable while you're away from home. Your house, your rules! If your pup needs crating at night or when home alone, no problem. If your animals have resource guarding issues and need separating while eating, I've got you covered. Let me know how I can best keep them comfortable and content while you're away. Please let me know, in as much detail as possible, all of your pets' needs (and quirks). Please let me know UP FRONT about any resource guarding issues, disordered behaviors, or any history of abuse. For puppies, it's fine if they are not yet potty-trained (I have plenty of experience with this), however please let me know UP FRONT.
Ratings and reviews
Kayla did an amazing job watching our dog over a long weekend! She kept us updated with regular messages and photos, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. It was clear our dog was getting lots of attention and care. The best part was coming home to a calm, happy pup—it was obvious he had been well cared for and felt comfortable the whole time. We couldn't have asked for a better sitter and would absolutely book Kayla again. Highly recommend!

Kayla has always taken good care of our babies!

Kayla always does a fantastic job, even when our cats' situation is unusual and they need special care (topical and oral meds this time). She knows what she's doing and it shows. I can always tell when a cat sitter does a great job because we get no "cat cold shoulder" upon returning home from vacation, and our little feline boys were simply happy to see us when we got home tonight from our trip; no cat dramatics whatsoever. Thanks again, Kayla!

Kayla is amazing. My pups absolutely love her. My antisocial kitty loved her too. A bit surprising because she usually hides from new people. Thoroughly enjoyed the updates and pictures. I am thrilled to find someone that ALL my babies love her.

Kayla and her dog Boomie stayed with Ginger for a few days and she seemed so happy and well taken care of when we came home. We got great updates from Kayla while we were gone and our house was super neat and tidy when we got back. We’re thankful we could leave Ginger in such good hands.

Kayla was a great sitter for Rosalie and Esteban. She gave regular updates on medication administration and their activity, as well as any outliers that I needed to be made aware of.

Schedule
This is my full-time job. My schedule is reasonably flexible. For house sitting, I will pop in and out throughout the day as I usually have a few other drop-ins. For dog walks/drop-ins, morning through early evening drop-ins are preferred. I will accept early morning drop-ins (think 6am) or late night (think 9pm or later) drop-ins on a case-by-case basis. I like my sleep :)
