Pet care experience
Dog Lover and Experienced Foster!
What sets me apart is my hands-on experience caring for dogs of all ages, personalities, and backgrounds. I grew up with large-breed dogs and have loved dogs my entire life. When I moved out on my own, adopting a dog was one of the first things I did! I currently have three resident dogs, all of whom I trained myself. Two of the three have severe separation anxiety, so I'm quite well-versed in some of the behavioral traits that come along with that. For the past two years, I've also been actively involved in the dog rescue world by fostering. I've fostered 12 dogs ranging from young puppies who needed to learn the basics to adult dogs who came with more challenging behavioral needs such as resource guarding. These experiences have taught me to be patient, observant, and adaptable with every dog I care for. I understand that not every dog is going to walk into a new environment perfectly behaved, and I genuinely enjoy meeting them where they are and helping them feel safe and comfortable. Whether your dog is a playful puppy, a perfectly behaved adult, or somewhere in between, I'll treat them like one of my own. My goal is for every dog to feel safe, loved, and comfortable while you're away!

Ratings and reviews
Kayla has my high and utmost recommendation as a caregiver of pets for Rover. She has three dogs of her own that are very well trained, entertained, and taken care of. Kayla’s love for animals is exemplified through her actions of volunteer service for multiple rescues in the Saint Louis area. She comes with an extensive background of fostering dogs from shelters as well. She’s adaptable to different dog’s personalities, quirks and behaviors and adjusts appropriately. She has personally housed, trained, cared for, and loved over 15 shelter dogs and has ensured they find their proper forever homes. As a person Kayla is patient, kind, understanding, and loving towards all animals. She will no doubt ensure any animal under her care will receive the best treatment a pet owner could hope for!
Kayla F. is fantastic with pets! She is trustworthy, responsible, and incredibly caring. My dogs are always so excited to see her and I can relax knowing they are in good hands. Kayla has years of experience being a foster Mom to many dogs over the last few years. Because she has such a big heart, she ended up adopting three of those fosters and now has her own pack of three. I highly recommend Kayla to anyone looking for top-notch pet care.

Schedule
I currently work from home and have a very flexible schedule. My resident dogs still rule my daily routine. Your pup will get plenty of attention throughout the day/night and can have potty breaks as consistently as needed. I've house trained seven puppies over the past two years, so I'm very used to frequent potty breaks if that's something your pup needs. Otherwise, every 2-4 hours is pretty consistent with the routine my resident dogs are on. I've fostered dogs with a variety of different needs and have always worked it into my schedule.

Home characteristics
Safety, trust & environment
I want every dog in my care to feel safe, comfortable, and at home, so I'm happy to adapt my approach to each dog's individual needs and your preferences as a pet parent. I do have three resident dogs in my home, all of whom are extremely dog friendly. Ideally, dogs staying in my home will be comfortable around other dogs, but I understand that not every dog wants or needs constant interaction. I have a separate guest room that I've previously used for foster dogs who needed some quiet time or a slower introduction. If your pup needs their own space, they can have a dedicated area away from my resident dogs while still having plenty of company - I work from home, and the guest room also serves as my home office. I have an unfenced yard, so dogs are always taken outside on a leash. I also have a long line that allows fogs more freedom to sniff, explore, and play while remaining safely contained. Outdoor time is always supervised, whether your dog is staying with me or I'm caring for them in your home. When caring for a dog in your home, I'll follow your instructions and do my best to maintain your pup's normal routine, including feeding, medication, walks, potty breaks, and any other care they're accustomed to. My priority is always safety, communication, and making sure your pup feels comfortable and well cared for while you're away. I've had people care for my own dogs while I've been away, and I've experienced both sides of the spectrum - sitters who went above and beyond and sitters who left me wishing I'd been there myself. I know how important it is to maintain a dog's routine and give them the same care and attention they're used to. My own dogs are basically my children, so I know exactly what level of care I'd want for them. That's the same standard I'll bring to caring for yours!

A typical day
Whether your dog has low, moderate, or high energy, I'm happy to tailor our day to their individual personality and needs. I've cared for dogs across the energy spectrum, so I know a great day looks different for every dog. Some dogs are happiest spending the day cuddled up on the couch with plenty of attention and belly rubs. Others need mentally stimulating enrichment activities, a walk or two around the park, or plenty of time to run and play. I'm happy to do it all! My goal is to give your dog the kind of day they would choose for themselves, whether that means a relaxing day of lounging, a day full of adventure, or a little bit of everything.

- Before booking, I'd love to know anything that will help me make your dog feel comfortable and keep them safe while they're in my care. This includes and medical or special needs, medications, allergies, behavioral quirks or triggers, feeding and potty schedules, etc. I'd also love to know what your dog enjoys (and what they don't!), whether they're comfortable around other dogs, and anything else you think would help me get to know them. Every dog is different, and the more I know ahead of time, the better I can tailor their care to them.
