I work full-time as a veterinary assistant at a local animal hospital. I have at least two days off each week and work a half day on Wednesdays. While I am away during part of the day, I come home every day during my hour lunch break to let your baby out for a potty break, playtime, and some extra love and attention. In the evenings, I enjoy taking dogs for walks (weather permitting) and spending quality time with them. When I have pets in my care, I plan my schedule around their needs. I avoid making additional plans so I can provide plenty of one-on-one attention, playtime, cuddles, and consistency with their normal routine. I do provide care in your home, with the same schedule/availability. Such as; going to your home on my break to care for the pet(s), only sitting for one family at a time, walks, etc. My goal is to make your pet feel as comfortable, loved, and at home as possible while you're away.

Safety, trust & environment

I have a fully fenced backyard. I also have a pool that is currently being fenced for added safety. My philosophy is simple: pets are never left unattended outside. If your pet is crate-trained or simply feels more comfortable in a crate, I have plenty of space to set one up for daytime or overnight use. I only care for one client's pet(s) at a time to provide the safest environment and plenty of one-on-one attention. I have a designated "dog cabinet" stocked with essentials like pill pockets, peanut butter, and ability to keep any medications your pet may need during their stay. If your pet rides in my vehicle, I use a pet seat belt to help keep them secure during travel. I ask that owners provide a properly fitted harness or collar and leash. If you're unable to do so, I have extras available (with your permission) to safely transfer your pet to and from my home and for walks. I do my best to maintain your pet's normal feeding schedule, so I appreciate detailed instructions regarding meals, treats, and any special preferences. I also always ask about food sensitivities, allergies, or other dietary needs to ensure your pet stays happy and healthy. These apply to in your home as well.

Information Kayla H. would like to know about your pet

Transparency is huge to me in this field. Always make me aware of behavioral or medical needs for your baby. Along with what your daily routines are and what you do for stimulation, especially if you have a high energy dog! Allergies, food sensitivity, and any big no-no’s for your baby. If you are actively training (especially puppies) let me know where you are on that training and what you need for me to do in order to keep up with it while you’re away. Pet(s) whom are big on specific commands, please let me know what words/hand signals you do and wish for me to do while your pet is in my care. All of these things make for a more smooth transition and help to be sure we are not confusing or contradicting.

A typical day

A typical day always depends on the baby and their needs. High energy dogs are not going to have the same stimulation as older calm babies. The best way for me to do what is right for your pet, is for you to guide me through what is best for them. Nobody knows your pet, like you. Once you tell me what you needs, I will do it. If I notice high energy pet(s) need more than what had been discussed, I will reach out with some ideas and you can approve or deny.

Fear free and experienced!

Pet care experience

I've worked in animal care for several years, starting at a dog boarding and daycare facility where I spent six years. I began as a kennel technician and worked my way up to general manager, gaining extensive experience caring for dogs with a wide range of personalities, behaviors, and medical needs. I'm currently pursuing a long-term goal of becoming a veterinary technician. In my free time, I foster animals for a local rescue that I'm passionate about. I take pride in using fear-free handling techniques, understanding animal body language, working through behavioral challenges, and providing compassionate care for medically compromised pets. While I'm relatively new to Rover, I've been caring for pets in my home for years. My goal is to make every pet feel safe, comfortable, and loved while giving their owners peace of mind. I'll treat your pets like they're my own and will keep you updated with photos and messages throughout their stay.

Kayla took care of my Keeshond, Sweet Ellee, for 6 years at doggie daycare and she was my "go to" if I needed someone to take care of her if I was out of the house for a long period of time. Ellee loved Kayla and was always so excited when I would tell her we were going to doggie daycare to see Miss Kayla or if she was coming to the house. Ellee had separation anxiety and trusted Kayla. To be truthful, I don't think Ellee even missed me when I would leave as long as Kayla was there. There is no one else, either at daycare or at my home, that I would trust to take care of my Ellee. Kayla is professional, knowledgeable, respectful, trustworthy, kind, and responsible. Kayla is also very energetic and will play with your dog, if they were high energy or just sit with them and love on them if they were quiet or a senior. I highly recommend Kayla. Unfortunately, my Sweet Ellee passed away in March 2024; however, as soon as I get a rescue, Kayla would be my number 1 "go to."

If you are looking for a pet sitter who will treat your fur baby like their own, look no further than Kayla! She is truly one of the most wonderful kind hearted people I’ve ever met. My pet requires medication, which always makes me a little anxious when I’m away, but Kayla handles it flawlessly and gives me total peace of mind. Her communication is incredible. She sends regular updates and takes the absolute best pictures! She constantly goes above and beyond to make sure my Pet is safe, happy, and loved. I cannot recommend Kayla enough!
