I’m currently a stay-at-home mom so I have plenty of time to care for boarding, daycare, drops in and more. I typically reserve a week for house sitting clients and don’t take other clients during that time. Military housing clients are prioritized as they are closer to me. Thank you for your understanding and for giving me as much detail about your dogs stay/needs as possible. I do try to pick up a few clients a week.

Information Kayla D. would like to know about your pet
All I would like to know is if your dog has any medication needs, allergies, or special issues to look out for. My childhood dog Missi had epilepsy and she would often have seizures, so I'm very comfortable around dogs that may need a little more attention. I’m comfortable with giving medication; pills or injection, I’ll follow your instructions.

Pet care experience
Hi Fur Parents! I’m Kay! I’m a stay at home mom and pet sitter in the Fayetteville area. My partner and I have been stationed here for 4+ years now and I’ve accumulated my pet sitting capabilities over the past 10 years. Thank you for taking the time to look over my profile and consider hiring me to watch your fur babies. Below I have listed a general idea of what my services will look like for you. Please also feel free to take a look at my photo album to see the many breeds I’ve worked with over the years. Boarding (My House): Once we book through Rover I’ll give you all my contact info and we’ll go over the packing list for your pet(s). Please keep in mind that your pet may meet a new friend while here so a crate for bedtime is encouraged. Our home has a fenced yard that my partner maintains regularly. Special Tip: Please be sure to bring something from home that smells like you/your house. An example would be an old t-shirt or blanket that you do not have sentimental attachment to. The familiar scent will help with any nerves your fur baby may have at drop off or bed time. ***Your pet must be comfortable around small children. Rest assured they will NEVER be left alone with my children. My children are kind and gentle to animals but they’re still learning to respect an animal’s personal space.*** House-Sitting (Your Home): Meet and Greets are completely up to you. Many of my first time clients tend to have me over the day before so as to show me where all the pet supplies is as well as walking me through their routine. About half of my clients appreciate me staying in their homes full time while the other half are happy with drop ins during the day and sleeping in their homes overnight. It’s completely up to you, I’m very flexible. And yes, I will feed your fish too. ***Please keep in mind that I have 2 small children that I may need to bring with me as my partner is active duty and often goes overseas. My children are very kind to animals. I will NEVER bring other people into your home without permission (I have only ever brought my children with me or have had my partner come pick me up, for reference.)*** Drop-ins (Your Home): Drop-in clients receive all the same care that house-sitting clients do except I will not stay overnight in your home and I will require a spare key to be able to lock up after every check-in. When it comes to both house-sitting and drop-ins, I leave the spare key on the kitchen counter and lock up the house on the day you're coming home. I'll communicate with you when I've done my last check in and where I put your key and when I leave your home. Doggy Daycare: Daycare is chill. All I ask is that you drop off and pick up on time and communicate if you’re running late. Unless I approve special circumstances pick up must always be before 6pm, excluding weekends. Your pup will enjoy a relaxing day of fresh air, playtime, tv time, snack time, nap time, and yes they will be allowed on my couch. *Your pup must be good around children.* We live on Fort Liberty. If you're an off post, non-military client you can receive a pass at the main gate (All American) as long as your driver's license, insurance, and registration is current. If you happen to arrive at the wrong gate, all you have to do is ask the gate guard to redirect you. Once you're at the main gate office you'll ask for a pass and it'll take a few minutes. If you don't have those things to be able to get a pass, you will have to let me know in advance so we can figure out a different plan. Many gates are closed on weekends and holidays, if you aren't sure what gate to use, please let me know and I can send the proper information. I do not offer military discounts/deployment discounts. If you have any questions or concerns for me please let me know in your message when requesting a booking! Thank you so much! *Last Updated January 2025*

As usual, yet another successful and pleasant stay for our Maggie at Kayla's house! Maggie always has a great time with Kayla and her kiddos, and Kayla always keeps up well-informed and updated throughout Maggie's stay. I appreciate how flexible and understanding Kayla is if "life happens" or a scheduling conflict arises; she really is the best and I would recommend her to anybody! Thanks again Kayla!

Kayla seems nice, but I don't think she has the experience, confidence, or knowledge to safely and properly handle many dogs at this point in her journey. She panicked upon normal dog behavior (barking after a bad introduction to her dog; more on that later), had no ideas for mitigation strategies, and did not try to implement any I suggested to her when she contacted me to say she didn't want to watch him after all. As a result, my husband and I had to drop everything while on separate work trips, to implement emergency contingency plans. My husband dropped off our 7 month old Doberman puppy and within minutes I got a frantic message that she couldn't keep him because he was barking, and she was worried about the MPs coming. My dog has had multiple successful sitters; is well socialized to people, places, situations, and several dogs; has exhibited no signs of being behavioral; is in formal training; and has never had separation anxiety noted by a sitter, vet, or groomer. I advised Kayla twice - incl. in my puppy's profile - that he got very excited around dogs and it was something we're working on, so handlers must be aware. Note, every sitter my puppy has been with also has dogs, and my puppy played well with them. When I asked what happened before the barking began, she said she brought her dog and my puppy up to each other "eye to eye" (and my puppy may have been crated; that's unclear). I've raised multiple Dobes, spent 10+ years at shelters and done many different schools of dog training, and this is not an ideal intro for dogs. Not surprisingly, my puppy got excited and barked, and Kayla said her dog got aggressive. The fact that she had no ideas for any mitigation strategies speaks to the lack of knowledge and experience. I gave her ideas for distraction and then suggested she let my puppy outside to burn off the bad experience, and she told me she was nervous because he was "eyeing the fence." I explained he has never attempted to jump our 4 ft fence to date. She then mentioned she had never dealt with this breed. At this point, I realized it was not a safe environment for my puppy, thus her request to give him back was best for everyone. However it was extremely inconvenient given I was across the country and my husband was trying to leave with colleagues for an important work event. It would have been better if she realized she was nervous or uncomfortable handling my puppy before she accepted. I requested a meet and greet 1.5 weeks in advance and the timing didn't work out. Kayla said it was no big deal because she only requested meet and greets if dogs were cautious of people. I would suggest anyone considering Kayla require a meet and greet, where they can verify she has the confidence required to safely and properly handle your specific dog.

Kayla is so awesome!! I know my cats are well taken care of when she drops in to check on them! I will continue to rebook her.

Another amazing stay for Maggie, and hopefully she can stay at Kayla's house again in the near future! Thanks again Kayla for being so flexible with my family's schedule and for the "spur of the moment" instances that came up this weekend. Maggie had looked happy, energetic, and well rested! I recommend Kayla's services to anybody!
