Farm girl, who’s always had a dog
Hi there! I grew up on a farm in Maine surrounded by animals, so caring for dogs (and just about every other kind of pet!) has always been a natural part of my life. From playful puppies to gentle seniors, I’ve had experience with dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments. During my childhood, there was never a time when I didn't have at least three dogs in the house, so I know how to handle multiple pets and their unique personalities. Over the years, I’ve helped friends and family with dog walking, sitting, and general care, and I treat every pup as if they were my own. Whether your dog loves long walks, quiet cuddles, or energetic playtime, I make sure they feel safe, happy, and loved while you’re away. I know Portland well and enjoy exploring its many dog-friendly parks and trails — perfect for keeping your pup active and entertained. I’m also looking to earn some extra income doing something I genuinely love: spending time outdoors with amazing four-legged friends! I’d love the chance to meet you and your dog and help make your life a little easier.

I have two cats of my own that are not fond of sharing space with other animals, especially dogs. Therefore, I am currently unable to offer in-home boarding services.

Kaya took extraordinary care of my pets and my home during a recent week of travel. My older dog and cat have special needs around food, medications, and routines. Kaya was undaunted by my detailed notes and kept my girls safe, calm, happy, and healthy the entire week. She kept my home clean and tidy as well, so my return was completely stress-free. Kaya is one of those rare, special people who is grounded and calm, but also confident and professional, which really helped to put me and my pets at ease. I would hire her again in a heartbeat.
I have known Kaya for two years and would recommend her to anyone I know to both house and pet sit, especially for people with dogs. We have both a medium sized and a small dog which each require their own quirky care. We felt totally comfortable leaving the state with Kaya watching our dogs at our home. I am a huge worrier who leaves a gazillion instructions- Kaya didn't bat an eyelash. She knew exactly what the dogs needed and didn't make us feel bad for being so particular :) She is a natural with animals and I trust her completely.

Schedule
I work as a fellow with a hybrid schedule, so my week has plenty of flexibility for walks, visits, and overnight stays. I’m always remote on Fridays, which makes long weekends easy for me to accommodate.

- It’s helpful to know as much as possible about your pet’s routine and personality before I care for them! I like to know things like their feeding schedule, favorite activities, energy level, and how they do on walks or around other dogs. Please also share any medical conditions, medications, allergies, or quirks — such as if they’re nervous around new people, loud noises, or specific situations. The more I know, the better I can ensure your pet feels safe, comfortable, and cared for.
