My husband and I are mostly retired. Our three young adult sons live with us. Over the years we have owned Labs and other rescue mixes. Currently we have parakeets and a parrot (out of harm’s way), as well as a couple of outdoor cats. We still have one really nice horse that is a hundred years old, more or less.

Safety, trust & environment
We have personally included many individual dogs in our lives over the past 40 some years. We do not currently have our own dog, but care for visiting dogs. They get a great deal of our attention during their time with us. Each visiting dog explores the home and seems to find its own different favorite spot. One dog may choose to spend quiet time in one of our sons' rooms. Another may prefer the corner of the dining room for relaxing in the sunshine. Still another chooses a dog bed by the front entry where he can keep an eye on the comings and goings of family members. The most frequented room is the centrally located TV room, where a family member sleeps to keep the visiting dog accompanied all night. Those dogs who are used to being on furniture often choose a recliner there for resting, though we have nice dog beds readily available too. Dogs seem to have found our home to be fun and interesting.

Information Kay E. would like to know about your pet
We will need dogs that we take care of to be well mannered, not overly anxious and generally quiet. We ask that you be transparent about possible behaviors and any pertinent medical history. Our young adult sons who live at home with us are great guys who have various disabilities, intellectually and physically. They are accustomed to animals. We (Kay and Rick) take responsibility for taking your dog outdoors. Connecting with and caring for your dog will be a meaningful experience for our family. Rick and I share an enduring fondness for animals and cannot imagine a home without the friendship and personalities of past and present pets. That said, we need to feel assured that your pet feels the same way about us and can be trusted to sense and respect boundaries and sensitivities.
A typical day
We will exercise your pet outdoors as they desire and as they are able, weather permitting, At other times we will just hang out indoors. We are happy to groom them, even bathe occasionally. More importantly, we will reassure them and by our actions aim to help them feel safe and learn what is expected so they can be content.

Special Care for Your Special Dog
Pet care experience
Hello! Our family cares for dogs with predictably good temperaments. Often they are older dogs. We have a relaxed environment in Corcoran, just outside of Maple Grove, 20 acres, ten of it with walking trails; plus a new quarter acre fully fenced private dog park (available outside of Rover time by appointment). Your pet will have frequent outdoor walks on trails (as able and willing) on a 15, 20 or 30 foot training lead. When your dog is relaxing, playing or exploring in the secure DogProofer (6 ft height) fully fenced birch grove yard, he or she is not left unattended. Nearly all the time, we are eyes-on, but just in case, an Fi tracker is placed on your dog from the first day on. At night your dog is not alone, as a family member is nearby. By the second day, if your dog is accepting of it, again, for the sake of security, safety and comfort, we prefer to use a harness for walks, most often ShawnCo Essential. We have thus far had immediate 100% success with transition from collar to harness attachment. If it is cold and rainy, or snowy and windy, or subartic freezing cold, we have coats for them when they go outside, and even sometimes ear muffs. If there are medicines to be given, or special treatments to be learned, a long time ago I was a nurse, a horse owner, a llama owner, a cat and rabbit owner, and what not owner, so chances are you can teach me what to do and I can learn. Overall, there is nothing fancy here, but we strive to cater to your dog’s nature and desire for the freedom to run, sniff and explore. They might even scare up a pheasant, rabbit or cat! No harm done. It is your pet creating happy memories. Currently, we care for one visiting dog at a time, though occasionally we have arranged to have a second dog. Most often this had been accomplished by placing the two cohabitating dogs in adjacent, but separate areas of the home. Caring for your precious pet is our family project, which we enjoy. As well, you can feel good that your pet’s stay here is benefiting our young adult sons, who have disabilities.
Reviews

Archie had a great time again! She is a tired pup today. I’ll be using Kay again in the future.

Our dog Ellie had a great time staying with Kay. She kept us well informed of what Ellie was up to and gave her lots of attention and time outside. We got some nice pictures and videos during the stay. Thank you and we hope to have Ellie back in the future!

Archie loved staying with Kay and her family! The 3 boys/ young men were all positive and enthused about the visit. I can tell Archie had a good time, and I loved getting reports and videos from Kay!

We had the most positive and worry free pet care with Kay and her family. Kay was extra attentive to the needs of our dogs. Also the lovely property provided all the fresh air and security for pets. She sent pictures and videos so we knew they were settled in and enjoying their time. It felt like my dogs were on vacation. Highly recommend Kay and family. We hope to book again.
