I have half an acre of fenced garden though it’s not a fully secure blocked in fence. Behind it is miles of farmed fields. I used to let my dog out to wee and explore on her own even at night but I trusted she wasn’t leaving so if your dog has recall I will let them explore supervised, without recall will be on a longline lead preferred. No rooms are out of bounds though I would naturally prefer to keep a dog that isn’t trained to wee outside, off the carpet upstairs. Depending on the dogs walking requirements I would go in the morning and/or late afternoon/evening. I would prefer if the dog was happy to come out and about with me if I was caring for them for a day +, only due to preference I like to think the dogs had an interesting day exploring rather than being at home too much but it’s your call if you rather they stayed home.
