Safety, trust & environment
I do not offer boarding at my home. Regardless of training, I leash walk dogs only - they may be more obedient with their owners than they are with new people. Cats will remain inside. Your animals safety is my #1 priority. So, for example, if you dog is used to running off leash, we will do an extra long walk or run and cats will get plenty of play time and mentally stimulating games to ensure they are getting the exercise they need and deserve. :)
Information Katie B. would like to know about your pet
What does your animal enjoy? Long walks vs short walks vs fetch vs snuggles on the couch? Do they have anything they don't like? Loud noises, other animals, bikes, car rides? Any medical conditions to be aware of? Any and all medications they are on. Emergency contact numbers: including the client's, someone I can call who can make medical decisions for the animal in case of an emergency, and your regular vets number. I cover more information during our initial first meeting or over email. :) *I require animals I care for to be up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations. Although, I am myself vaccinated against rabies, I also require my clients to provide proof of rabies vaccination prior to any pet sitting or dog walks - cats included (unless medical documentation is provided by a veterinarian).
A typical day
I love to hike and be in the woods. When possible and if the dog is comfortable, I like to walk through Belfast, visit the city park (sorry-absolutely NO dog park visits - your pet's safety is my #1 priority and I've seen far too many fights break out in dog parks and have first hand helped fix wounds caused by those fights in a veterinary setting), and walk the Rail Trail. I know of a few quieter, less traveled trails throughout the midcoast for those pups who may be more sensitive to heavy foot traffic or being around other dogs. I do what works best for the animals I care for.

Experienced Pet Care 4 Midcoast ME
Pet care experience
I am a Licensed Veterinary Technologist providing quality, loving, and reliable pet care in the Midcoast area where I grew up. My heart is in veterinary medicine and animal care and believe the bond between humans and animals is incredibly important - I strive to provide the best and most compassionate care to the animals of midcoast Maine. I have 12 years of experience in pet care throughout the area. I have completed the RECOVER Advanced Life Support and CPR certification, Fear Free Certification. I have experience caring for a large variety of animals in different life stages and conditions - I am able to work with animals who's conditions require medications/treatments prescribed by a veterinarian. I have managed boarding and breeding kennels, worked as a prep groomer, and worked in veterinary hospitals as as a kennel manager and assistant. I current reside in Belfast, ME with my partner, our 2 cats and my 11 year old Australian Shepherd/Cattle Dog mix, Dexter. I greatly look forward to speaking with you and meeting your furry companions! I also do pet photography and am always looking for new models! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I am able to care for older and sick animals who are under the care of a veterinarian and provide medications that have been prescribed. *services offered in Belfast, Searsport, Swanville, Northport, and other surrounding areas and prices may vary depending on distance and individual preferences. Please message me for a more accurate quote depending on your needs. I work full time and am able to mostly do early morning and evening check ins/overnights during the week. In my client's home, I provide leashed walks and play times in fenced yards. I am not comfortable letting indoor/outdoor cats out while I caring for them. Animals are not allowed off leash for their safety, regardless of their training. Accidents happen and I do my absolute best to limit the opportunity for those things to happen. I know the stress that having owners leave can put on animals so I am mindful of their regular schedules and try to stick as closely to their routines as possible to alleviate additional stressors. I enjoy playtime and training, and also love to just hang out and maybe do a little grooming if that is what the pet enjoys. I am very flexible and I know that every pet is different in their likes and dislikes. I try to cover this extensively with clients prior to them leaving.

Reviews

What a joy! Katie saved the day when I needed last minute Christmas cat care. She came through despite there being two snow storms! I appreciate all of the pictures she sent of Kitty Boy. She did a wonderful job keeping him fed and entertained. It was relaxing knowing he was in good hands, and equally great to come home to a spotless house and a happy cat. Thanks Katie :-)

Katie is awesome! Super reliable. Did a great job with my kitty!
Katie was a wonderful sitter for our kitty Mia. I looked forward to her pictures and reports knowing that Mia was being well cared for. I will be requesting her for additional trips away.

Very friendly and our kitties loved her. Great communication.
