Safety, trust & environment

I ask that my clients leave me a routine for their fur baby and discuss any rules they have for their pet(s) and home. I always put a leash on before leaving the house unless the yard is fenced in and the client agrees that it is safe to let them out without one.

Information Kathryn S. would like to know about your pet

**Pet parents must always inform caretakers of any allergies, relevant medical history, and any behavioral issues with people or other animals.** Change in routine can be stressful for pets, but preparedness on both sides can keep that anxiety to a minimum. In order to provide the best care for your pet, pet parents will need to complete a short video chat before booking. During our call I will ask questions about your pet’s routine, behavioral history, socialization history, and emergency contact information. If the service can be booked, we will set up a date for an in-person meet-and-greet where the service would be rendered. During the meet and greet, I will observe your pets behavior (identify any anxiety/stress, and increase my ability to quickly assess abnormal behavior that might occur during my care) and complete a “touch test” (gentle, short, force-free touches, and if belly rubs are offered I’ll happily oblige!) for all animals needing physical handling when in my care. The information I obtain during both the video chat and meet-and-greet are vital for quality communication while contracted. Abnormal behaviors such as suppressed/overactive appetite, scratching, or limping that were not discussed or observed at the meet-and-greet will be brought to the pet parent’s attention immediately.

A typical day

I enjoy being outside in nature and love when I can take pets with me. Long walks on cool days are my favorite, and when the weather is warm I don’t mind getting a little wet while they run through the sprinkler. For dogs without access to yards, senior dogs, and unvaccinated puppies, I enjoy providing mental stimulation throughout the day. Training puppies has taught me a lot about entertaining our little “balls of energy” when they can’t run around outside. Tools like snuffle mats and lick mats, along with games like “hide and seek” or “find it”, help stimulate the brain, engage them in fun activities, and can help decrease their overall energy. I find these work best when paired with short training sessions throughout the day.

Pet care experience

Pets are family, and how to better attend to their wants and needs doesn’t have to be a concern- I’m here to help! My love for animals has grown since I started pet sitting in 2014, and my experiences working in doggy daycares, boarding facilities, and pet care retail have stoked my drive to specialize in dog training. My time working with animals has made me an knowledgeable, more prepared, and empathetic pet sitter. I have been responsible for dogs and cats of all breeds, ages, and energy levels; some with health or behavioral issues; and companion animals like hamsters, rats, reptiles, and fish. My training allows me to provide help in addition to check-in, walking, or house-sitting services like: administering medication, potty training, getting your anxious pet used to new people, desensitization to grooming, and preparing for the AKC Canine Good Citizens Certification. It has been an enlightening decade working with the various species of unique, charming, adorable pets; and the hard-working, devoted pet parents that love them. Every day I strive to learn more about the animals for which we so deeply care.

Super excited to have found Kathryn, my girl is reactive and needs some additional time to warm up to people. Kathryn has been patient and understanding of her needing a little extra space until she's ready. She doesn't force interactions and understands body language. It's harder to find a dog sitter when you don't have an easy going pup and I'm thankful for the time and care Kathryn has had with my girl.

Kathryn did a great job with our two young labs. She played ball with them and let them run outside all day. She sent us pictures of the pups during our travel. She was awesome.

I could see by the pictures Kathryn sent me of my babies they were very well taken care of and just as I asked for them to be and they loved her my ladybug even smiled in the picture for her and that isn't an easy thing to get ladybug to do so if you need someone to take care of your fur babies dogs or cats or both she is awesome

I always enjoy Kathryn being around Marley, she is truly amazing on what she does. You can see the love she has for dogs. I was comfortable knowing that she will do a few drop ins with Marley while we were at Disneyland. I totally recommend her. Can’t wait for the next one, Marley loves you!
