Pet care experience
Jellybean's Mom | Your Pet's BFF
Pets have been in my family since the day I was born; always cats, sometimes dogs, an occasional fish, and of course my older brother’s pair of degus that unexpectedly became a large family of degus when I was a kid. My experience as a pet-sitter began here on Rover in the summer of 2019 and has been such a lovely time since. My main career, beyond pet-sitting, is in the arts; I studied photography for my undergraduate degree from 2020-25 and am currently exploring routes within art therapy. I still love taking care of animals and am always happy to jump in wherever I can. My experiences have allowed me to work with lots of different needs; whether that be for meals, water, medicine, potty situations, home/neighborhood situations – you name it. I'm pretty knowledgeable with emergency prevention strategies, but I'm always open to developing those further as well as my first aid & CPR skills. Meet & greets ahead of time are always a part of my practice, so no need to hesitate if you have any questions! Always willing to talk through options.

Qualifications
Safety, trust & environment
My most-developed skills are in the realm of prevention, but the most important one is having a conversation about any behaviors, anxieties, or known mischief. My primary focus is allotting the time that will help the pets feel cared for, as well as thoroughly communicating any updates or questions for the humans. My usual considerations are things like blocking escape artists, securing any & all food and medicine, securing any non-food valuables like books/shoes/electronics, and setting up any needed barriers to help avoid shenanigans in the house. And I'm always grateful to learn new techniques for both prevention and emergency situations.
Ratings and reviews
Katie took good care of Yucca over the weekend. She sent pictures and updates throughout her stay.

This was our first time booking with Rover or Katie and what a great experience it was! Katie was very responsive and did a fantastic job with our diabetic, senior cat! I’m very protective of our pets so I was thrilled when Katie agreed to stop by for a meet & greet. We were able to see how well the cats responded to her and how comfortable they were with her immediately! If you are hesitant to book with Rover like I was, I highly suggest booking with Katie! Thank you again!

Katherine did a great job looking after Riku! He looked happy in all his pictures. The apartment was left clean and tidy. I would recommend Katherine for your pet sitting needs!

This was my first time working with Katie. She was responsive, kind, and flexible. I so appreciated her extra effort in flagging an issue with ants near the food dish (ugh!), and cleaning things up so my kitty could eat in sanitary conditions. The kitty also warmed to Katie as she got used to new person in the house, which was great to see. Very pleased!

While the sitter was well-intentioned and tried her best, I unfortunately cannot recommend her for pets with medical needs or shy personalities. She advertised experience with giving medication and did try to administer it, but because my cat was so scared of her, she couldn't get her to eat it. Because the critical daily meds were missed, we ended up having to cut our trip short to return home and care for our cat. There was also a stressful mishap where she misplaced our apartment key right as the trip started, though she did communicate with me over the phone to figure it out. She is nice and clearly cares, but I was disappointed that she accepted the booking knowing the care requirements, only to find she wasn't equipped to handle a timid cat. If your pet requires medication or is easily frightened, I would advise looking for a sitter with more specialized experience.

Katherine was so great with our dogs! She kept us updated and sent pictures. She also took great care of our home while we were away!

Schedule
I spend a lot of time in Detroit and a bit in Ann Arbor, but I'm not traveling much further than that regularly. My day-to-day and week-to-week are very much in flux, so my general approach to pet-care is to check my personal calendar with each new booking request, hold the space & offer my availability, do a meet & greet, and then work any incoming schedule changes around the needs of the pet(s) that I have committed to.
