I always make sure they are comfortable and happy and engaged. How varies depending on the pet! But I like to take it slow and make sure they are comfortable with me and know me.

Alex is wonderful with all animals. They have a huge heart and are incredibly attentive, patient, and sensitive to each pet’s individual needs. I would trust Alex completely with any animal.
Alex is such a caring pet parent! They are always great about complex instructions (my cat likes to drink out of the sink and prefers to have it turned on once a day) and able to meet different pets needs. They're extremely reliable and kind. Alex seems to genuinely enjoy meeting any new pet and helping them feel comfortable!
