I want to start off by saying Kassandra is very kind, and I can tell she loves animals. Our typical sitter was unavailable for the dates we were going to be gone. We did a meet and greet with Kassandra and everything seemed like it would be fine. However, within 30 minutes of dropping off our dog, Kassandra texted me and said she would be unable to watch her due to her barking in her crate and scaring her cats when she tried to leave her to go golfing. She also said she had an accident and didn’t want to watch her due to that, as well. While out of character for our dog, I completely agree that these are not acceptable behaviors. However, in my opinion, leaving a dog alone in a new environment within 30 minutes of them arriving does not sound like enough time for them to adjust. We luckily were able to switch sitters quickly and had multiple sitters reach out to watch our dog. The sitter we ended up with had no issues with our dog and with her being left in her crate. I think Kassandra could be a good option for older dogs, cats, or for drop ins. However, I would reconsider for boarding if you have a playful dog or a dog that takes any sort of time to adjust. I also would recommend booking a trial stay, especially if you are planning a future trip. Kassandra mentioned that our dog was trying to play with her cats, and they didn’t like it, which was another factor in her not being able to watch her. Which is understandable that she didn’t want her cats to be stressed. I would request to do a meet and greet with her cats, as well, even if you believe your dog to be cat friendly, as our typical sitter has a cat, and we’ve had no issues. I think some of it could have just been a bad fit due to the environment and of course not all animals will be good fits for each other. However, I also believe some things could’ve been handled better, and I believe this sitter may not be the best option for young/playful dogs, dogs that need any sort of time to adjust, or maybe dogs that even have behavioral quirks. If any of this sounds like it could be your dog or you’re just a little bit unsure of how your dog may respond to the environment, I would consider a different Rover sitter or at least book a trial stay just in case. I do appreciate Kassandra reaching out quickly and being honest about feeling incapable of watching our dog, though.
