Availability
I have a full-time job, Sunday through Thursday from 7-3:30. There isn’t time to leave grounds during those hours so those times would be limited. My weekend days, Friday and Saturday, are open entirely.

Safety, trust & environment
I live in an apartment on the third floor, so no yard. If boarding a dog, we have a dog park right outside by balcony that’s a short walk away. The neighborhood itself is very walkable and there are parks nearby for longer walks and trips.
Information Karli D. would like to know about your pet
The personality of the dog such as if the dog is shy or not, if it takes a while for the dog to warm up to new people, does the dog like to be touched on his/her collar, words/phrases the owners use frequently for training purposes, allergies, quirks the dog may have (i.e. "he has a habitat of stealing anything new that's left on the floor"). No breed preferences. I love all breeds of dogs and never discriminate just because a breed has a "bad rep"
A typical day
All the walks and all the games of fetch! I see lots of people out walking their dogs in my neighborhood so there will be plenty of new smells and new sights. I’m not far from buffalo bayou park and it’s a favorite place to go for some fresh air.

Zookeeper by day (and night)
Pet care experience
I’ve been a primate zookeeper at the Houston Zoo for over 6 years now. I spend most of my time taking care of our 8 gorillas but I also work with two monkey species and one lesser ape species. Prior to Houston, I’ve worked in two zoos in Illinois and have numerous internships with a wide variety of animals under my belt. While zookeeping isn’t the same as pet care, training is a regular part of our day and I have extensive knowledge in positive reinforcement training. In addition, I’ve had pets my entire life, from dogs and cats to fish and hamsters. I have two cats of my own who I adopted from a local humane society in Illinois in 2017. They have since traveled across the country with me and are my children. I had a previous job at a doggy day care working with all sizes and breeds of dogs. There I was responsible for behavior monitoring, feeding, and medication administration, including injectable medications. In college I volunteered at the local humane society as a dog socializer.

Reviews

Karli was wonderful from start to finish. I felt very comfortable with her taking care of my little cat while I was out of town. My apartment was in immaculate shape when I came back home as well. Definitely recommend her and plan on using her again in the future!

Karli did a great job taking care of our cats while we were away. She was patient and resourceful when a succession of annoying electronics failed at our house.

We are very satisfied repeat clients! Thanks, Karli!

Karli is amazing! Our dogs Bella and Ferdinand absolutely love her — she has a natural way with animals. She kept us updated with photos throughout, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. It’s clear she genuinely cares about the pups in her care. We’ll definitely be booking with Karli again! 🐾
