Pet care experience

Confident with active dogs

I’ve grown up around dogs and animals, having been raised on a farm. My first dog, Indi, was a working Patterdale terrier who spent his days out on the land with my dad, often around livestock. I helped raise and train him from a puppy, and later supported his care into old age, including hydrotherapy sessions to keep him moving comfortably. These days, I have my own dog – Beau –a young, energetic working cocker spaniel. We’ve spent over three years training together, focusing on gundog commands, whistle recall, and scent work. It’s been a rewarding challenge, and has given me a deep understanding of how to keep dogs mentally and physically stimulated. I’m active, reliable, and genuinely love being around dogs. Whether it’s supporting a routine, continuing training, or just keeping your dog well-exercised and cared for while you’re away, I’ll treat them with the same attention and respect I give my own.

Karl is very professional and really knows what he’s doing when it comes to dog care, Ron our cocker spaniel was a very happy dog and have booked a second visit for the future already. Plenty of long walks, loving to our dog and overall he has been excellent. Would recommend to anyone.

Schedule

I’m a UX/UI designer currently looking for a new full-time role, which means I have plenty of flexibility right now to dedicate to dog care. I’m used to working remotely, so being at home and managing time around walks and routines comes naturally. I walk my own dog three times a day and we’re always out exploring on weekends, so I’m already in a great rhythm. I’ve got the capacity to welcome another dog into that routine – whether that’s for walks, daytime company, or weekend care. While I’ve got the extra availability, I’d love to spend it doing something meaningful – helping care for dogs who need it.

Safety, trust & environment

I offer a calm, secure home with plenty of space and structure. I have a fenced back garden with shady trees, grass, and a small patio – perfect for outdoor play and breaks, with fresh water always available. The front garden leads onto a private estate, so any front access is always supervised and leash-only. Inside, the main living areas are spacious with easy-to-clean floors (kitchen, hallway, and lounge), and a stair gate keeps dogs safely downstairs. My dog is fully house-trained and respectful of space, and I welcome visiting dogs with the same boundaries. If your dog uses a crate, I can provide one or you’re welcome to bring your own – I’m happy to follow your dog’s normal routine. There are no small children in the home, and there’s plenty of enrichment available – toys, scent mats, and space for indoor heel work if the weather turns. Walks are a regular part of our day, and I’m always happy to adjust to your dog’s energy level or routine. If I’m caring for your dog in your home, I’ll treat it with the same care and respect I give my own. It’s all about keeping your dog happy, comfortable, and safe – wherever they are.

A typical day

Having an active working Cocker Spaniel means I’m up early most mornings and heading straight out for a good walk. We usually go for about an hour, exploring local commons, woods, or quieter walking spots depending on the weather and the dog’s energy levels. I encourage calm check-ins, recall, and allow the dogs time to sniff and explore, but also making sure they come back in when needed, especially around other dogs. At home, I like to keep dogs mentally stimulated with puzzle toys, scent-based games (like hiding kibble in toilet roll tubes), and frozen Kongs – great for winding down in the evening or calming post-walk energy. My dog Beau is relaxed and friendly, and I always supervise toy time to make sure everyone is playing nicely and respectfully. Evening walks are usually shorter and slower, giving everyone a chance to unwind. On weekends, we like to go further afield for a longer outing – more space, more smells, and more fun. I tailor the day around your dog’s energy, preferences, and routine to make sure they feel settled, stimulated, and safe.

Transparency is really important to me – I want your dog to feel safe and settled, and my own dog, Beau, deserves the same. If your dog has any behavioural issues, such as guarding, reactivity, or a history of rough play or nipping, please let me know in advance. I’m happy to work with dogs who need structure, but aggressive or dominant behaviour isn’t something I can accommodate in a shared-home environment. It’s also useful to know your dog’s typical routine – how active they are, what their recall is like, and any habits or obsessions (balls, food, toys, etc.) that may come up. I tailor my care to suit each dog, and the more I know upfront, the better the experience is for everyone.
