Pet care experience
Come. Stay. Play!
My name is Karine & my boyfriend is Hunter. It's a team effort between us to make sure your dog(s) feel like they are on vacation while you are away. We take only one dog at a time, unless they come from a family - or if they are already dog friends. We live in a two-story rowhome between two parks and find ourselves outside whenever possible, either on our front stoop, walking the neighborhood, going on trail walks, or lazily lounging at the park. Our house is dog-friendly - no space is not theirs to enjoy! We love having dogs and am also looking forward to bringing some furry joy back into the house - we are big fans of dog snuggles and cuddles and have no shame in being those dog people. I am hoping I can help others feel comfortable that their dog is taken care of so they can enjoy their time away and your dog doesn't miss the comfort (and routine) of home. I spent 2 years fostering with Friends for Life, taking in many different dogs of all ages, sizes, and experiences. Bear, an 8 year old golden, came along as my last foster & I couldn't say no to adopting his sweet, happy face. I had Bear for 5 years before he passed away December 2019 - Hunter, my boyfriend, got the chance to meet him over the last year of his life. During Bear's time, we had many friends from Rover come and stay with us, some continuing to use us over 3 years.

Ratings and reviews
Gibson had another fun and active visit with Karine and Hunter. They take the best photographs of him and we really enjoy the updates. We are very grateful for the wonderful care that Karien and Hunter give Gibson when we are traveling!

We are so grateful for the wonderful care that Karine and Hunter provide our beloved Gibson whenever we are out of town. He’s always happy to see them and reluctant to leave when we pick him up. In between the drop off and pick up, we appreciate the photos they send to let us know Gibson is enjoying his home away from home.

The best there is!
We are so thankful for the great care that Karine and Hunter provided our Golden Retriever, Gibson. He just spent his second Labor Day weekend with them, and now Labor Day has become Gibson’s favorite holiday!

Gibson just returned from 10 marvelous days with Karine & Hunter. They took excellent care of him and sent the most wonderful photos every day. When we picked him up we weren’t sure if he was going to come with us as he seemed quite comfortable at his “home away from home”. This is Gibson’s second visit with them and he looks forward to others in the future!

I work from home, though go into the office a couple days a week at my discretion. Hunter works from home also so during the week there is someone at home during office hours.

Home characteristics
Safety, trust & environment
We ask that your dog be potty trained, not aggressive (no biting, nipping, or history of human attacks), and not destructive. We prefer dog friendly dogs given our neighborhood and the proximity we have to neighbors.
A typical day
We live in Capitol Hill. There are lots of walking streets to explore nearby, as well as two parks on either side of us. Also, there are a few parks and trails that we will go to in the car to - Roosevelt Island, Rock Creek Park, Potomac Overlook Park to name a few.

- We would like to know any special needs or concerns the owner might have. We can not dogsit for aggressive dogs, hyperactive dogs, or dogs that are not house trained. These simple questions also help us get your dog settled & feel at home - feel free to think through these things: 1) What is your dog's daily routine? 2) Does your dog do anything differently when he visits a new home? 3) What makes your dog feel at home? 4) Do your dog have any quirks or special preferences that they would like us to know about? 5) How does your dog like to meet other dogs? 6) Does your dog take any medication and if so, is there a special way they like to take it? 7) Where would your dog like to sleep at night? 8) Does your dog have any dislikes? 9) What would you like us to know about your dog?
