A typical day
I respect companion animals of all species (skunks, skinks, snakes, spiders welcome!). I love hanging out on the couch and cuddling canines and felines alike. My own dogs are spoiled, as I walk them multiple times a day, and they have the run of the apartment.

Fear-Free Pet Care for All Species!
Pet care experience
I can’t wait to meet your pet family! With nearly a decade of experience working in veterinary medicine and more than three decades of pet caretaking/ownership, I offer worry-free skilled and routine pet caretaking services in your home. I have a background in fear-free techniques that help me to understand and work with fearful and high-anxiety pets. I have been employed at clinics, mixed practices, and a veterinary referral/emergency hospital. *I carry a pet first aid kit at all times.* My clinical background as a veterinary assistant/receptionist includes animal handling and restraint, administering medications and injections (such as insulin and fluids), caring for hospitalized patients and providing treatments, assisting doctors with diagnostics, and educating/communicating with clients. This experience in both traditional and exotic veterinary medicine translates to exceptional care for all species of companion animals. I am comfortable managing a wide range of medical conditions and administering medications, so you can feel confident about leaving your pet in compassionate, skillful hands. I earned the title “chihuahua whisperer” at work—a true badge of honor! As a dog-mom, I truly enjoy caring for animals. My pet family includes a special-needs tripod Boxer, Raegan, for whom I had a prosthetic leg designed; a long-coated Chihuahua, Joie; and a merle chihuahua, Cookie. My affinity for companion animals began early on. As a child, I would bring home stray dogs and cats, and I kept exotic pets including rabbits, hermit crabs, hamsters, mice, lizards, frogs, and fish. During high school, I received academic credit for interning at a veterinary clinic. As a Yooper (Upper Michigan native), I had the opportunity to work with multiple sled dog teams, which proved to be very enlightening experiences! The most interesting animal-caretaking experience I have had is providing critical care to a newborn alpaca named Mittens and helping the farm owner tube-feed this special-needs baby while she was out of town (he was eventually able to stand on his own and nurse!). A major component of pet caretaking is communication. With a bachelor’s degree in scientific and technical communication from Michigan Tech, I have studied the art and science of communication.
Reviews

Karina is so good with dogs, my two Shiba Inu’s could sense it! She has that aura around her that lets them know they can trust her. Karina was a good listener and anxious to learn about how we trained and walked our dogs and what our routines were. Our dogs listened to her, and you could tell they just loved her and felt at ease with her. Not only my dogs, but I felt a complete trust with how gentle and loving she was with them and was just a very trustworthy kind of person. I would love to have her back anytime she was available to do so. I would jump at the chance to hire her!

As always, Little Miss Olive was cared for well and was happy as could be to have company while I was away. Thank you!

Karina is welcome to stay or visit my kitties anytime. They are comfortable with her and all needs are met everytime. I can’t say how nice it is to be able to leave for a couple of days knowing they are safe and cared for… it means the world to me!

I went to The Soo Tuesday for work expecting to be home Wednesday afternoon. Mother Nature had other plans as the snow was relentless. Stayed overnight until this morning and it was worse. I know my Old Man kitty doesn’t like when I am gone so asked Karina if she could stop in today, fearing I wouldn’t make it home another night. She came on short notice and eased my worries. I can’t thank her enough!
