~~~ First-time Rover users, please ask me about Rover's $20 rebate code! ~~~ Thank you for considering me for your pet care! I have been around animals my entire life and pet-sitting for most of those years. I grew up with a menagerie of pets including the best indoor/outdoor cat of all time (Smokey), a wily barn cat, gerbils, a black snake, a rabbit and a parakeet. I've always gravitated towards animals and the great outdoors and I eventually pursued Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Wildlife Biology. I acquired an extensive background and years of unique experiences handling and observing all kinds of wildlife from working across the U.S. and abroad on numerous wildlife and marine field research projects (small mammals, gray wolves, foxes, black bears, bald eagles, bats, feral cats, right whales, and sea turtles). I also worked in a mobile wildlife research hospital for a year off the coast of California where I administered routine physicals, IV fluids, first aid on island foxes and feral cats. I've cared all types of domestic animals: numerous dog breeds, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, donkeys, chickens, reptiles. I now work full time remote as a Geospatial Analyst after completing another Master's in Geospatial Information Science and Technology (GIS) through NC State. My energy is very calm and positive. Clients frequently comment that their dog or cat 'usually doesn't warm up to anyone that quickly!'. I am extremely laid back, quiet and not easy to intimidate. I used to clean an Airbnb and always strive for 'Leave No Trace', so your home will be well cared for and may be even more sparkling than when you left!
Safety, trust & environment
I provide overnight visits, drop-ins, and/or walks. If my availability doesn't perfectly align with your dates, please still get in touch! I know several other sitters and I have tag-teamed with them on multiple occasions. It may sound like a hassle to have multiple sitters, but it has always worked out great in the past and I'll do whatever I can to figure out a way to accommodate. I always arrange a visit to meet you and your pets. Your home is your sanctuary, so I will treat it as such! I try to leave no trace and always leave any space I spend time in better than I found it. I previously cleaned an Airbnb, so I am accustomed to keeping things clean and orderly. Your space will be well-cared for! Please also note, I am a relatively small human, so if your dog is reactive on leash or is a strong puller, lunger or otherwise not well behaved on leash, I would not be a good fit for walking those types of dogs.
This was a meet and greet with Kari. We're not sure our schedules will match. Need to wait and see.
Kari did a great job with our three dogs while we were on vacation. Our dogs are still young and a bit rowdy and she was able to keep everything smooth while we were gone. And the house looked clean and tidy on our return!
Kari was extremely communicative and accommodating when caring for my two cats. I knew my kitties were in great hands while I was away- thank you, Kari!
We were lucky that Kari was available to house/dog-sit for a week while we were out of the country as we could be 100% confident everything was in good hands. It's difficult to find someone you trust with your house, dogs and all the details that come with both and Kari continues to be our #1 preference. It's a huge relief to be able to not worry about anything while gone and leave everything in her easy-going care. Highly recommend for your house/pet-sit needs.
Schedule
I work from home so during weekdays, I can let animals in and out as needed. I have been booked for overnights on average about every week of the year for over 3 years.
Cats
0 to 15 lbs
16 to 40 lbs
41 to 100 lbs
over 101 lbs
Kari can host up to 4 drop-ins per day
As a former wildlife biologist, I understand that all animals have natural instincts but also have specific personalities and needs. To me, the most important aspects about caring for your animal are having a firm understanding of their natural behaviors, reactivity and responses to their surroundings, including new people, other dogs, and what routine they are accustomed to. What puts them most at ease? What elicits fear and anxiety (thunder, other dogs, separation)? How do they communicate their needs? What are your expectations with pet care? Please note I am a very light sleeper and to maintain a clean, peaceful sleep environment, I do not allow dogs in the bedroom. If your share your dog must share a room with the sitter, I would not be a good match for you. Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions prior to booking. It is much better to address all questions before or during an initial visit. I look forward to speaking with you!
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
