Safety, trust & environment

For cats: I let them take the lead. Some want to play (and I always come with toys), and others prefer that I feed them, change their litter box, and step away while they eye me suspiciously. I never force anything, and that's probably why shy cats tend to feel safe with me. For dogs: Safety first – I always double check the collar/harness. I never have headphones on when I walk them, because I prefer to be present with him/her/them. Overall, my goal is for the pet to feel safe and cared for, and you to have peace of mind. I also send lots of pictures and videos.

Information Karen W. would like to know about your pet

Let me know your pet's personality type, and if he or she will charge the door. If it's a cat: is he shy, or will he want to play? Where are her usual hiding spots? If it's a dog: How is she when she sees other dogs on the street? Are there particular noises that scare her? If it's a multi-pet household, who is the alpha pet? Who steals the food?

A typical day

For cats: I bring an assortment of toys, because some cats love the laser, and some cats prefer to quietly rub their head on a catnip toy. Some cats just want to sit and talk, and others want me as far away as possible. For dogs: Show me the way! If I'm just walking the dog, I know they have a routine they're used to. Let me know what that is, although I'm fairly certain the dog will show me.

Care that Cats Actually Trust

Cat care experience

I’ve been caring for cats for 15+ years and share my home with two senior cats of my own, so I understand how unique each cat’s personality, needs, and quirks can be. I’ve (half-jokingly) been called a “cat whisperer” because I can often get even the shyest cats to come out and say hello, but I never force it. I let cats lead. If they want to observe from their tree, that’s perfect. If they’re in a playful mood, I’m all in (and I always bring toys, just let me know about any catnip sensitivities!). I think that’s why cats tend to trust me, because I meet them where they are. I send plenty of photo and video updates while you’re away (unless you prefer fewer! Just let me know.) Most importantly, I treat your cat the way I treat my own. They’ll genuinely be on my mind the entire time you’re gone. ⸻ What I like to know before visits: • Any allergies or sensitivities • Triggers or stressors • Favorite hiding spots • Feeding routines and preferences • In multi-cat homes: who’s the alpha • Whether anyone is likely to make a run for the door I have experience with a range of care, including oral medications, inhalers, and subcutaneous injections. ⸻ Boarding Option I also offer boarding in my guest house (roughly the size of a spacious studio apartment). It’s a calm, cat-friendly environment with: • Multiple cozy sleeping spots • Built-in bookshelves often co-opted for vertical climbing and lounging • French doors with a garden view (aka premium cat TV) • An actual TV for YouTube cat content or anything your cat enjoys I visit at least twice daily and often spend extended time there working, so your cat gets plenty of company and attention. You’re welcome to bring any beds, cat trees, toys, etc that your cat loves. I send at least one photo/video each time I visit. Usually more, just let me know! I only board one cat or family of cats at a time. Before choosing boarding, remember that cats are often happier in their own territory. Drop in visits might be better. Boarding is best for events like a long vacation, or if you need a calm spot for your buddy for a short period of time (for example, if you’re moving or have house guests). Message me and we can figure out what works best for your cat(s).

Karen went above and beyond what was asked of her. She was great with our cat who doesn’t typically come out to play with sitters but came out to play a lot with Karen. I suggest anyone use her if she is available. Thank you, Karen!
