Catnip Forest: Feline Vacation Time

I absolutely love the process of bonding with cats. That includes getting to know each kitty's unique personality, earning her trust, and building mutual respect and affection. I was a "cat mom" for over 25 years, and I loved every minute of it. Then, I lost my beautiful Buddy to cancer and I wasn't quite ready to bring the next kitty into my home permanently. Cat sitting informally for friends and neighbours brought both me and those cats I visited a lot of joy, so I decided to offer official cat-sitting services. It has now become my main gig, and I have had the joy of visiting, playing with, and caring for hundreds of wonderful cats over many years. If you leave your kitty in my care, I will give her a vacation while you're away. Specifically, I will: - Follow your special instructions to make sure any interruptions to your cat's routine are minimized. - Spend time getting to know your cat. I make the effort to understand what each kitty I care for enjoys. - Talk to your cat. I make sure they know that they are safe and loved while you're away, but that you are coming back for them! - Play with your cat -- using the favourite toys you provide or toys I have for your kitty to try out. I bring a laser pointer and tablet to play videos of birds and squirrels for them. - Brush your cat if that is part of your routine. - Sit quietly nearby your cat while I read, write, or knit, in order to provide calm company without overstimulating a nervous kitty. - Offer as much petting, ear rubbing, whisker rubbing, back-scratching, or tummy rubbing as a social kitty desires. - Make lots of cat treats and catnip available, if you permit it. Catnip comes in the form of dried catnip pieces. - Bribe your cat with tuna if you permit it. I can offer tuna for shy cats who need a bit of extra encouragement to come out and visit, and I can offer tuna for holidays, birthdays or special occasions. Please do let me know if you would like me to offer some tuna as a treat during your booking, and also let me know about any special health or dietary needs! - Treat your kitty as family. In my home, felines are family and that's the way I treat all kitties I meet. - Send you updates regularly so you know how your feline family members are enjoying their vacation while you're away. There is nothing quite as rewarding as the company of a content cat! If you leave your cat with me, I will do everything possible to make sure your furry family member is deeply content while you're away. My goal is to make your cat forget -- at least for a little while -- how much he or she misses you. Please contact me with any questions, or to arrange a meet and greet before you book your cat's vacation. I can't wait to bring "the catnip forest" to your special kitty. Note on Service Area: I currently take on new clients roughly in the area between Wellesley St. in the north and Gerrard St. In the south, and between Bay St. in the west and Jarvis St. in the east. These "major intersections" are not hard boundaries, so please do feel free to contact me if you live on side streets near this area, and I continue to serve clients I previously took on outside this area. Note on Fee Transparency: At time of writing (August 2025), I receive $20 for each basic cat sitting drop-in visit. I set that rate. The remainder of what you pay are fees that are set by the Rover platform and which go directly to the Rover platform. How they charge and display fees can change without notice to me. I am sharing this because I believe it is important to be transparent with you about what I am charging for my service and where your money goes.

Safety, trust & environment

My visits take place in your home, according to your instructions. Please note that for safety purposes, I don't take cats outside or let them on balconies while they are in my care. If your cat requires outside time while you are away, please message me so we can discuss details before you book. In very rare cases I do make exceptions, but it is heavily dependent on the circumstances and the precautions in place. For example, I have worked with clients who provide catios, or fully-enclosed private yards and cat harnesses, to make sure their kitties get the safe outdoor time to which they are accustomed. But please note that I do not take cats onto open balconies or allow them into yards that open onto roadways.

Karen was fantastic! She was so communicative and caring and you could really tell she knew what she was doing. We were concerned to leave our cat for a trip due to some recent health issues she’s been having and Karen’s detailed updates and photos helped to reassure us while we were away.

Karen was absolutely amazing with my two cats over the past two weeks. They’re both pretty shy and typically take a long time to warm up to new people, but Karen was so patient, gentle, and attentive that they completely came out of their shells with her. By the end of her stay, they were not only comfortable - they were sitting on her lap and enjoying endless rubs! It gave me such peace of mind knowing they were in such caring and capable hands. Karen clearly understands cats and respects their personalities, and she went above and beyond to make sure they felt safe and loved. I couldn’t have asked for a better sitter and would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking for exceptional pet care. Thank you, Karen!

I can’t recommend Karen enough! She is communicative, cares for your pets like they are her own, and clearly loves what she does. I had an excellent experience with her and would give her name to anyone needing a cat sitter.

Schedule

All of my cat sitting visits take place at night. I am usually available weeknights, weekends, and holidays, and I typically accept up to four bookings per day. If you find I am already fully booked for just one or two days out of a longer period that you need, please message me. I may be able to open up an additional spot for you on those days - especially if we have already worked together. If your kitties already know me and expect me to come around when you are away, then I will do my very best to accommodate your schedule. (Christmas and New Year's book up in advance.)

Cats
Karen can host up to 4 drop-ins per day
During our meet-and-greet, i will get you to show me your cat's care routine. This should include food, treats, playtime, litter, medication, and emergency information (carrier location, vet, how to reach you quickly in an emergency). I can administer oral medications that need to be given roughly once daily. However, I am not able to time my visits precisely enough to administer extremely time-sensitive medications such as insulin for example. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions, and I will be happy to clarify so you can be sure if you have a good fit for your little fluff ball before you book.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
