Pet care experience

Kara and Turtle's Hound B & B

I have cared for animals from dogs to horses to chickens since childhood. I have had greyhounds for the last 8 years and am familiar with their idiosyncrasies, but am happy to walk and sit dogs of all shapes and sizes.

Kara was wonderful! Her pup Turtle is so sweet and did so well with Murphy! She provided timely updates and plenty of walks! We will definitely reach out again!

Kara did a great job checking in on our girl Georgia! She was very communicative and we felt our dog was well cared for.

Kara has been an animal lover her whole life and makes fast friends with any animal. She is very caring, gentle, knowledgeable, and trustworthy. She truly understands and respects what it is to have a pet be part of the family, and will always treat your pet as part of hers.

Kara has been our go-to babysitter for my senior citizen dog. She is patient with my dogs occasionally challenging personality traits, like barking, some inside accidents, and most importantly, always treats my dog with respect and affection. When I am traveling or away, I hate to think of my dog being treated like a "thing" to be stored. I love knowing Kara takes animal's needs and feelings seriously and genuinely likes my dog (and dogs in general). It's really clear that when my dog sees Kara, they have a 'friendship,' and my dog is happy to see her. That makes it much easier for me to leave my dog with her when I need to. Kara is also a good, clear, and consistent communicator, and an overall responsible and trustworthy person. I know my dog will be safe and in good, attentive hands.

Kara is one of the most responsible, caring, and dedicated animal lovers I have ever met. I have trusted her with walking & sitting for my greyhound countless times over the past seven years and Kara is always loving, reliable and attentive with her — even in extreme weather or at the last minute! I don’t trust everyone with my dog but Kara has become basically a second mom for her. I have also seen Kara be a loving dog mom to her own pets, including as they aged and developed special medical needs. Kara has always been patient and devoted to the dogs in her care. She is very knowledgeable about animal behavior and proactive in potentially stressful situations. As a person in general, Kara is reliable, professional, trustworthy, and has a great sense of humor. She is a hard worker, friendly, a great communicator, very calm under pressure, and solution-oriented. I truly can’t recommend her enough; you and your pets will love her.

Kara is a seasoned dog caretaker. She has walked and cared for my greyhound, both daytime and overnight, reliably for the first few years of my dog’s life. She is prompt, has attention to detail regarding your individual dog’s needs and genuinely loves animals. My greyhound, Twig, was anxious and not the easiest to coax out of her crate on walks when I first adopted her. Twig always had a wonderful time with Kara and her dog, and they each built a great relationship quickly with Twig!

Schedule

I am a teacher, so during the summer I have a flexible schedule for sitting and walks. During the school year, I can board for weekends only. My dog is used to 3 walks a day in the neighborhood and an before-bed potty break, with some trips to trails and parks to keep things interesting.

Safety, trust & environment

I live on a quiet dead-end street. I do not have a yard, but there are lots of sidewalks for neighborhood walks on leash, and a trail in the woods within walking distance. If your dog likes car rides, we can also go for adventures on other trails. I have a friendly, 6 year old greyhound, Turtle, who gets along well with medium and large dogs, so any boarders must play well with others and be up to date on shots, including kennel cough, and parasite screenings!

Pets

A typical day

We typically do 3 20+ minute walks a day and a before-bed pee break. I will always feed dogs in separate rooms and they will be separated if I am out of the house.
