Pet care experience

Local Zookeeper and Animal Lover

I currently work as a zookeeper and have years of wild and domestic animal experience. Working with wild animals means I have a much deeper understanding of animal husbandry, psychology, and behavior that allows me to provide better care for your pet! I'm especially comfortable around and handling large dogs due to the nature of my job. Professionally, I have cared for a variety of wild animals including large cats like lions, tigers, and leopards, dolphins, seals and sea lions, and several canid species. That being said, I'm able to provide a deeper level of personalized care.

Kamryn took excellent care of our dog, who can be quite a character. It is such a relief to know our dog was in a caring environment.

Schedule

I currently work 5 days a week, usually Wednesday-Sunday. On my weekend, I'm home all day. On my workdays, I'm able to leave during lunch to provide dogs with potty breaks. There is a dog park within walking distance of my apartment that I bring my dogs to every morning and evening. I do also have a dog potty set up inside my apartment just in case a dog can't wait for me to get home. I provide this because I personally wouldn't make myself hold it, so I would never force a dog to do the same.

Safety, trust & environment

I provide a very safe, relaxing environment where your dog will be treated like family. I approach care with a proactive approach, rather than reactive. This means I always keep a close eye on individual pet behavior as subtle cues can indicate how a pet is feeling at a given moment. Many pet owners miss out on these cues, especially if they aren't trained to look for them. Overall, this means I try my best to create a safe environment for and trusting bond with any animal I work with via positive reinforcement and never push past an individual's limits.

Pets

A typical day

I like to take dogs on long walks around the lake near my apartment. However, the activities I pick really depends on an individual dog's preferences. My dogs love long walks, but some do not. Some would prefer to sit and cuddle, which I'm more than happy to do! Because a large part of caring with wild animals is training, I like integrating training sessions into fun time.

Please note: I cannot take in dogs that exhibit signs of aggression towards me or other animals (this includes resource guarding). This is because I work on some days and cannot supervise 24/7. There will also be other dogs in the home, and I need to ensure safety for myself and them. If I notice any signs of aggression or resource guarding that I believe threatens the safety of myself or other pets in the home, I will have you come pick them up. Also, I do need to know if there are any allergies, medical conditions, or medications to be administered during the stay.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
