Pet care experience

Treating your pet(s) like ours!

Two for the price of one! Instead of one sitter, you get two who share responsibility, making us more flexible and able to give your furry friend more attention than a single sitter. I (Kaitlyn) have been a pet sitter since I was in high school. Friends, family, friends of friends, colleagues, etc. have entrusted me to watch their furry friends. I’ve pet sat everything from dogs to porcupines to chickens, and Josh and I recently added a pig to our client list. I grew up with dogs (Pekingese, Husky, and Golden Retriever, not all at the same time), and Josh grew up having both cats and dogs. His parents continue to foster cats to this day!

Our cat doesn't like being left alone for prolonged periods of time. Kaitlyn not only took care of our little dude, she was practically adopted into his family. We really appreciated the observations Kaitlyn was making along the way and how she kept the communication going. Totally recommended!

Kaitlyn took excellent care of Finn for 9 days! She was communicative, taking into account time zone changes, and detailed. Finn warmed up to her quickly. Will definitely hire Kaitlyn again!

Kaitlyn is the sweetest! Her warm, cheerful, and caring nature helped her bond with Jake so quickly, which gave me complete peace of mind while I was away traveling. She was incredibly reliable, prompt with Jake’s schedule, responsive, and always kept me updated on how he was doing. I especially appreciated how thoughtful she was about Jake’s safety—she checked with me about what she could and couldn’t do with him, including his interactions with other people and animals. It was clear that Kaitlyn genuinely cared about Jake’s well-being and always put his best interests first. I felt completely comfortable leaving him in her care, and I’m so grateful for the wonderful care and attention she gave him. I would absolutely trust Kaitlyn with Jake again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone caring, responsible, and trustworthy to look after their pet!

Schedule

Josh and I come as a bonded pair. You’ll be communicating with me, but behind the scenes, I am coordinating to make sure that all your needs are understood by the two of us. We both have "jobs" in the city: I am currently a grad student, working on my MS at Weill Cornell and Josh is on a hybrid schedule out of an office in Midtown, but does WFH a majority of the week. I am home if I am not in class! There are times during the work week that neither of us are home, so pets do need to be comfortable home alone for a couple hours (no more than four hours!). As for weekends, we are primarily home bodies and are happy to work our personal plans around your booking. If you are unable to send boarding requests, it is likely because it is turned off. Please do not send a drop in request unless you are actually interested in a drop in!

Safety, trust & environment

Located near downtown Jersey City, we live in a spacious 1B apartment above the Grove Street PATH station (on the Starbucks side). We do not have any other pets of our own and only take one client at a time (2 pets per client max). With living in a high rise, we take elevators with other dogs/people or are in hallways with other dogs/people. If your dog is reactive, we have alternate routes (stairs). Pets are allowed on all our furniture (bed, couch). We do ask that pets are house trained, but they do not have to be crate trained. We do not have a balcony or a fenced yard. We have an exposed pantry, shoes are out in a shoe rack, some open trash cans, and a few stuffed animals in the apartment, so if those are triggers for your pet, we can easily move stuff around/put stuff away.

A typical day

We will treat your pets as our own! These are your family members that we are more than happy to add to our small family of two while you are away. Each pet has their own personality: You know your pet best, and we will do everything we can in alignment to what their needs are. If your pet is good with other dogs and we get the go ahead from you, we enjoy taking them to the nearby dog parks (Hamilton and the one on Bay are our favorites) or taking them for strolls along the Hudson and stopping into dog-friendly coffee shops. We also will play with them at home, give them cuddles (if they’re a cuddler), and take naps with them on the couch.

Please let us know any health issues, pet personality, and what their day looks like so can do our best to not deviate from your routine while you’re away. Each family is different, so we don’t expect what will work for one client will work for you. Our apartment is located near a maintenance closet that is accessed throughout the day (even odd hours early in the morning) and faces the street. If your pet is extremely reactive to noises coming from outside their space, please consider booking with someone else since we cannot control our environment to that level and want to be considerate of our neighbors. Thank you for understanding! Prior to booking, we would love to arrange a meet and greet with you and your pet(s) to learn where we fit in your daily schedules. Talk soon!
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
