Pet care experience

Med student and animal lover!

I started looking after pets of friends and family as a kid as I've always loved animals and didn't have them around the house often. During university, I was a live-in dog sitter for my landlords and now that I'm in Calgary for medical school, I have found it to be a great way to help with my loans and get some animal therapy. I've looked afters cats, dogs, snakes, hamsters, birds, fish. Of note, I am comfortable with more than one animal at a time (frequently up to 4 cats in one house at a time, 2 of which needed medications every 4-12 hours). I have also cared for cats on multiple occasions that required insulin injections and am comfortable with those, as well as oral medications, should that be a concern. I'm not unfamiliar with cats who tend to be moody and am comfortable learning their boundaries. However, I have been named "cat whisperer" my neighbours and family for my propensity for socially shy animals to cuddle and play with me!

Safety, trust & environment

I am comfortable providing medications and basic pet first aid to animals who require that on an ongoing basis. When I stay in folks homes, I try to make the place seem as if I was never there. I strive to meet the animal with where they are at in terms of how much play time and cuddles they want and happy if they are an independent animal who needs time alone.

Kailey was excellent at communicating, and was flexible when our plans had to change unexpectedly. She was confident in taking care of our dog-reactive dog, and happy to follow our positive-reinforcement based training plan. We were very happy to have someone we could trust with our dog!

This is the second time Kailey has done cat sitting for me and she was excellent again! She came to the rescue when we could not get back from our trip in time and made the time and effort to stay another night. It is much appreciated that she went above and beyond to take care of our fur baby!

Kailey was a great cat sitter and took excellent care of our home as well! She sent updates about my cat/home throughout my time away and I had no worries while I was gone. 5 stars for Kailey- I will definitely be using her services again!

If your pet is hesitant with new people, I like to meet them briefly before coming to stay so we can have an initial meeting before spending more time together. This is especially true if they need injections as I don't want them to run/hide and make it a more stressful experience for them.
