Information Justyna B. would like to know about your pet

Before walking someone's dog, it's essential that I gather important information to ensure the pet's safety, comfort, and well-being. Temperament and Behaviours: Personality: Is the dog shy, aggressive, friendly, or anxious? This helps me understand how they might react to people, other dogs, or unfamiliar environments. Triggers: Are there things that make the dog anxious or reactive (like loud noises, bicycles, or certain types of people)? Socialization: Does the dog get along well with other dogs or prefer to be alone? How do they react to children or strangers? 2. Medical Conditions and Needs Health issues: Does the dog have any medical conditions, such as arthritis, hip dysplasia, or breathing issues? Medications: Are there any medications the dog needs during or after the walk, or any health emergencies to watch out for (e.g., seizures)? Allergies: Are there any allergies to foods, plants, or other environmental factors? 3. Exercise Requirements Energy level: Is the dog highly energetic and needs long walks or runs, or do they prefer short, leisurely strolls? Breed-specific needs: Some breeds require more physical activity (e.g., working dogs), while others are more suited for short, slow-paced walks. Age: Puppies might need more frequent but shorter walks, while senior dogs might need gentler, shorter walks with breaks. 4. Leash and Walking Habits Leash behaviour: Does the dog pull on the leash, or are they good at walking alongside? Are they used to specific types of harnesses or leashes (e.g., retractable, standard, or no-pull)? Commands: What commands does the dog know and respond to (e.g., "sit," "stay," "heel")? Is there a specific word they use for recall? 5. Aggression or Fear Triggers Other animals: Does the dog have any aggression toward other dogs, cats, or wildlife (squirrels, birds)? Fear-based reactions: Are they afraid of loud noises, cars, certain surfaces (like grates or water), or specific objects (bikes, strollers)? 6. Routine and Preferences Walk length: How long does the owner prefer the walk to be? Are there any preferred routes or places the dog is familiar with? Bathroom habits: Does the dog need frequent bathroom breaks? Are there any specific times or routines for potty breaks? Water and treats: Should I bring water along? Are there any specific treats they like or are allowed? Any food restrictions or sensitivities? 7. Emergency Contacts: Vet information: Know the dog’s vet name, contact details, and what to do in case of an emergency. Owner contact: Have a reliable way to reach the owner in case of any issues during the walk. Emergency plan: Understand how the owner wants you to handle emergencies, like injury, illness, or a lost pet situation. 8. Special Instructions Off-leash rules: Does the owner allow off-leash walking in safe areas, or should the dog always remain leashed? Play preferences: Does the dog like specific games or toys during the walk (e.g., fetch or tug-of-war)? Environmental preferences: Do they dislike certain weather conditions (rain, heat, cold) or prefer to avoid specific types of areas (busy streets, muddy paths)?

A typical day

As a dog walker, my main focus is on keeping the dog happy, healthy, and well-exercised while ensuring safety. Here's a variety of activities a I might do during a walk: Regular Walking/Leisure Stroll Walk at a comfortable pace, allowing the dog to explore and sniff. Sniffing is important for dogs as it stimulates their minds. Exercise & Running For more active or high-energy dogs, incorporate jogging or running. This helps them burn excess energy and stay fit. Play Fetch or Tug of War In a safe, open space like a park, playing fetch with a ball or frisbee can add an element of playfulness and exercise. Training Reinforcement Incorporate basic obedience commands like "sit," "stay," "come," or "heel" during the walk. This helps with training and builds focus. Socialization If the dog is sociable and the owner allows it, I could visit dog parks or arrange meet-ups with other friendly dogs to promote socialization. Nature Walks or Hikes For dogs that love exploring, take them on nature trails or wooded areas where they can experience new sights, smells, and terrains. Mental Stimulation Activities Create mini "challenges" like hiding treats or playing scent games to keep the dog's brain active. I could use toys or just place a treat under a rock for the dog to find. Cool-Down and Rest After high-energy activities, take breaks in shaded areas, especially on hot days, to ensure the dog stays hydrated and cool. Safety & Health Checks Constantly check if the dog is comfortable, looking out for any signs of stress, heat exhaustion, or injury. Always carry water and waste bags for hydration and cleanliness. Environmental Enrichment Let the dog explore different types of environments—urban areas, parks, quiet residential streets—giving them a variety of experiences that stimulate their senses.

Justyna is lovely. She’s communicative and clear - she was also very understanding when my flight was delayed. I knew Beckett was in good hands!

Justyna was amazing from start to finish! She was great with communication throughout Nala’s stay with her and they ended up being the best of friends by the time I picked Nala up. She made both Nala and myself feel comfortable from the start and I could leave Nala alone with her knowing she would be in good safe hands and well taken care of and loved. Thank you Justyna!

Justyna treats my girls as if they are her own! Shes amazing, I’ve never seen them run into a house so happily. Her home is very secure and plenty of space for dogs. My dogs are anxious, needy and won’t let you forget it but I’ve only ever been told how wonderful they are by Justyna. There’s no greater relief than knowing your dogs are in the best hands when you’re not there!
