It was my first time leaving Zoom with Junior, and unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing. She was meant to stay with him for three weeks, but I became so concerned by the apparent lack of care that I arranged for a friend to collect her after just five days. Junior was extremely unresponsive throughout the stay. Despite me asking numerous times, he failed to provide a single photo of Zoom. Based on her AirTag location history, it also appeared that she was barely being taken out for walks. More concerningly, for two days Zoom was fed treats as her only food because Junior failed to collect her Butternut Box delivery, despite me sending him the expected delivery time range. Junior also has his own dog and uses Butternut Box himself, so I struggle to understand why Zoom could not have temporarily been given some of his dog’s food and that amount replaced once her delivery arrived, rather than being fed treats as her meals for two days. Junior also claimed that Zoom had peed on and ruined his sofa cover and expected me to pay for it. I have this conversation recorded in a voice note. He then changed his account and claimed that she had actually ruined his sofa. At no point did he provide me with any photos, videos, receipts, or other evidence showing that Zoom had caused any damage. As there was also another dog in the property, I have no way of knowing that any alleged accident or damage was even caused by Zoom. He additionally claimed that Zoom had peed herself and smelled strongly of urine, while again trying to sell me his grooming services. What made this even more concerning was that he had already attempted to upsell me on grooming before the booking had even started. When my friend eventually collected Zoom, she did not smell of urine at all, which made me further question the accuracy of what I had been told. I had also paid Junior separately for both pickup and drop-off. Since my friend ended up collecting Zoom herself and Junior did not provide the return journey, I would have expected him to at least offer to refund the unused drop-off portion of that payment. He did not offer any refund for it. There were also a significant number of Zoom’s belongings missing when she was collected. This included approximately five packs of Butternut Box food, her toys, perfume, dry shampoo, wipes, rabbit ears, and cleaning spray. These items were only addressed after I specifically called Junior out about what was missing. After I raised the issue, he returned only one pack of Butternut Box, along with the dry shampoo and perfume. He initially said that Zoom’s toys had already been placed inside her crate, despite them not being there. While I was on FaceTime, after I pointed this out, he then handed the toys to my friend separately. The remaining Butternut Box packs were not returned, and neither were the rabbit ears or cleaning spray. Another concern was that when Zoom was collected, Junior smelled strongly of what appeared to be cannabis. This was particularly unsettling because he had represented the property as a non-smoking household. I cannot say where the smell came from, but it added to my concerns about whether the environment matched what had been represented to me before the booking. Taken together, the lack of communication, absence of photo updates, concerns around walks and feeding, changing claims about alleged damage without evidence, repeated grooming upsells, the unused transport payment, missing belongings, and my concerns about the environment left me extremely uncomfortable with the entire situation. I ultimately felt I had no choice but to end what was supposed to be a three week booking after only five days and arrange for someone else to collect her. The experience left me unable to trust that Zoom was receiving the level of care I had expected or that her belongings were being properly accounted for. Based on my experience, I unfortunately would not recommend Junior as a dog sitter.
