Pet care experience

Rescue volunteer and pet lover

I’ve been a lifelong pet owner and have spent the past 12+ years volunteering with a local rescue that specializes in special-needs animals. Over the years, I’ve fostered dozens of dogs with a wide range of needs, helping them learn basic obedience, house manners, and successful housebreaking skills while preparing them for their forever homes. I currently share my home with a special-needs Great Dane, a Labradoodle, and an elderly cat. My Labradoodle is a trained therapy dog, and together we participate in visits to schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and other community settings. Through my own pets and foster animals, I have extensive experience caring for senior dogs, dogs with mobility challenges, dogs requiring medications, and pets needing extra patience and attention. I regularly provide pet care for friends, family, and neighbors through home visits and in-home boarding. I understand that every pet has a unique personality and routine, and I strive to provide the same love, structure, and care that they receive at home. Whether your pet is young and energetic, elderly, special-needs, or simply needs a little extra attention, I will care for them as if they were my own.

Pets

Safety, trust & environment

Safety and comfort are my top priorities when caring for your pets. My home has a securely fenced yard and a doggie door, allowing dogs safe access to outdoor time while remaining supervised. I also have multiple crates and the ability to separate pets when needed. With years of fostering and caring for special-needs, senior, and rescue animals, I understand that every pet has different needs, personalities, and comfort levels. I am experienced in managing introductions, creating separate spaces, and maintaining routines that help pets feel secure and stress-free. When providing care in your home, I treat your home with the same respect I would my own. I am happy to bring in mail and newspapers, water plants, clean litter boxes, and help maintain your pet’s normal routine. I can also transport pets to veterinary appointments if needed. My goal is to provide dependable, loving care so you can travel with confidence, knowing your pets and home are in good hands.

Julie was wonderful with all 3 of our dogs! Managing their different personalities is no small feat, but they were happy, relaxed, and clearly well cared for. Dependable, thoughtful, and someone we’d happily trust with our crew again!

Julie has cared for my dogs on many occasions over the past six years. I would ask her to do it again; she is knowledgeable, compassionate and so patient with my dogs. I’ve watched her lovingly care for her own dogs and many fosters over the years. Any dog would be so fortunate to have Julie love them as her own. Her home is clean and in dog-loving condition. Don’t hesitate to leave your dog in Julie’s care. She is one of Fluvanna’s best!

Schedule

Pet care fits very naturally into my daily routine. My children are grown, and I have the flexibility to devote plenty of time and attention to the pets in my care. Our own pets are an important part of our family, and caring for them is already a central part of my daily life. I enjoy playing pickleball and going to the gym, but otherwise I spend much of my time at home. This allows me to provide frequent potty breaks, exercise, companionship, and lots of attention for visiting pets. Whether your pet enjoys walks, playtime, cuddles on the couch, or simply a consistent routine, I have the time and flexibility to help them feel comfortable, safe, and loved while you’re away.
