Pet care experience

Hello! My name is Julie. Let me tell you a little about us! At our canine and feline paradise of Sioux City Ranch, my husband Tim and I, make sure your four-legged family members are top priority. It’s been that way for five years and you can bet it will continue to be that way for many more. We LOVE DOGS! Across our expansive property of four acres, my husband and I provide dogs and cats (and horses) of all ages the space they need to stretch out and be comfortable. In addition to my work with Rover, I have many years of experience working with dogs both young and old, including special needs pets requiring scheduled medication and other accommodations. I have a certificate for canine first-aid and emergency procedures to better prepare myself for working with senior dogs and those spirited pups. Unless otherwise requested by you, your canine will have free reign of completely fenced our property. Both inside and out! We will never bring them to a dog park and expose them to the dangers of common diseases, like the many forms of parvovirus, and aggressive breeds. We have lots of comfy dog beds available, or you can bring your pup’s favorite! When your pet is with us, their comfort and health are our primary concern. Are you worried about the highly unlikely scenario of your pup running away? Upon request, we offer an optional dog tracking device ( Whistle brand) that allows us to locate them within minutes. However, I have never had the need to use it, as we supervise our charges when they are outside and inside. Your dog is truly under 24 hour supervision. I know what it’s like leaving your furry child with someone, unsure of what’s in store for their stay ahead. Rest assured, I will provide your dog or cat with what they need for a stay of relaxation, affection and entertainment. That includes: Plenty of running around and playing in our ½ acre fenced-in playyard Comfy and clean beds and mats Age-appropriate toys and rope tugs 24-hour supervision Lots of hugs and photo shoots 😊 For added convenience, we also offer: Pick-up and drop-off Overnight boarding Drop-in visits while you’re away We offer our pet-sitting service with the confidence that comes with raising six fur babies and raising and training Border Collies for more than 10 years. Each of our agility/herding dogs are well-behaved, house broken, obedience trained, and have either been prepped for the show pen or retired. We feel that our dogs are family, and you can bet we will treat yours like they’re one of ours. And yes, that extends to cats, as well! Please bring the following to your dog(s) overnight stay: Food with feeding instructions; Bed (optional) or something from home or favorite toy; Well fitted collar with ID tags and leash; and Crate if that’s what your dog is used to sleeping in (optional). I look forward to meeting you and your dog soon! My husband and I are both retired, so your dog will receive 24/7 care and attention. One or both of us are always home to care for your dog. I have a fenced and cross-fenced 1 acre area for the the dogs to play in. Your dogs will never be kenneled or caged. They will be provided ample opportunities for exercise and rest.

We recently left our husky Piper and cat Lucy with Tim and Julie over a long weekend. We only interacted with Tim. He appeared to be the sole caretaker of the animals, Julie was not involved with this weekend. Tim was very kind and friendly in person, and it’s clear he cares about animals. Piper seemed to do well overall and enjoyed the large yard and time outside. That said, we did leave the experience with several concerns, mainly around communication and our cat’s care. One of the biggest challenges was communication throughout the stay. Responses were often very delayed, and there were periods where we didn’t hear anything back despite multiple check-ins. We had specifically requested regular updates because we were nervous about leaving both a dog and cat for an extended weekend. While Tim eventually responded and did send a few photos, many of our questions, especially regarding Lucy, were either answered vaguely or not answered directly. We had also made it very clear that Lucy needed time outside of her crate to roam and decompress. During the stay, we learned that additional Rover dogs had been brought into the home, which we were not aware of beforehand. Tim mentioned that Lucy was being kept crated at times because of the other dogs and concerns about her hiding in the house. When we picked the animals up, we learned that Tim had suffered a significant fall during the weekend that resulted in an ER visit. We were not informed this had happened during the stay. Thankfully everyone was okay, but it added to our concerns about communication and supervision. After returning home, we also discovered a puncture wound/scab under Lucy’s mouth that appeared consistent with a bite or scratch from another animal. We cannot say exactly what happened, but it was concerning to find after the stay. Overall, Tim was kind and clearly trying his best, and we’re grateful our pets returned home safely. However, based on our experience, we personally feel this environment may be better suited for dogs than cats, particularly cats that need quiet space and more individualized attention.
