About Malaya

Her previous family brought her into the shelter where I worked after she was attacked by dogs while tied up in her backyard. As a result, we insist on dog meetings as she can be dog selective. After being her caretaker for several months while she recovered from the attack and then endured the painful treatment resulting from a heartworm positive diagnosis, she was cleared for adoption and I knew I had to take her home and make sure she was safe and happy for the rest of her life. She does not do well with dominant dogs, but likes dogs that want to play. Malaya gets along especially well with smaller dogs as she has pretty much always lived with a small breed dog. She has big dog friends, but tends to play tougher with them so we try to discourage that. She loves playing with her rope toys and chasing balls at the park (she's a speedy lady when she has the room to sprint!) and takes treats like an angel! We have limited knowledge of what happened in her previous home, but she is scared of a lot of random things (lamps, fans, vacuums, bushes at night). She loves toys, but can only have the toughest of the tough because she will otherwise shred them into tiny pieces. She has a favorite blanket that's been with her since the shelter that she will occasionally drag around when she's excited. She is a total baby and loves to cuddle. She will crawl all over you and lay on top of you if you let her (however, we don't recommend this because although rather petite, she is very dense). She will guard when humans eat, so she goes in her cage during mealtime.

  • Breed: PitBull Mix
  • Tracking Chip: Yes

Not enough encounters to judge. Once had several random young children come up to her and hug her body and squish her face and she just sat there (not sure she enjoyed it, but she was very patient and gentle with them).
  • Gets along with other dogs: Yes
Can be nervous around dominant dogs, especially if female.
  • Gets along with cats: No
Have not seen her interact with cats, but barks and whines when she sees them through the window.

About Arthur

Such a happy little weirdo! He loves people and meeting new dogs at the park. He loves dog treats and baby carrots, but is sometimes picky about eating his breakfast and dinner (his sister is more than happy to help finish it, but we separate them to eat now so he can finish his food and she can stop getting chunky). We rescued him in May 2016,, so we are still learning about him. He's a very sweet, cuddly boy, but we have never had him around cats or children, so I don't know how he would react. We are not sure what happened to him in his previous life, but he is very nervous when he gets his harness on before a walk. He flattens onto the ground and starts whining. Once he's out the door, he's as happy as can be. He gets scared occasionally, but has never acted with aggression.
